Bio

Dr.Janice Schmitz is an Associate Professor in the Dental Health Department at the Community College of Rhode Island where she serves as the Director of the Dental Hygiene Program.  Janice began teaching in 2011 as an adjunct instructor in CCRI's Dental Hygiene Program and was hired full-time in 2015.  She teaches in both the Dental Hygiene and Dental Assisting programs.  She is a CCRI alumna, graduating from the Dental Hygiene Program in 2001.  She is a graduate of the Universsity of Bridgeport, Fones School of Dental Hygiene, earning a B.S in Dental Hygiene in 2012, a M.S. in Dental Hygiene in 2015, specializing in education and public health, and a Doctorate in Health Sciences in 2021.  Janice is a Certified Dental Assistant, and a licensed Dental Hygienist and Public Health Dental Hygienist.  Additionally, she holds a permit to administer local anesthesia and nitrous oxide.  Janice has been practicing dental hygiene for over 20 years and has worked in both general dentistry and prosthodontics.  She has completed extensive research on orofacial myofunctional disorders and obstructive sleep apnea, and has been published and spoken nationally on her research.  She is a member of the Rhode Island Dental Hygienist's Association, the American Dental Education Association, and the Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society.
