Human information:
infraspinatus (rotator cuff)
origin: infraspinous fossa
of scapula
insertion: posterior aspect
of greater
tubercle of humerus, and capsule
of shoulder joint
nerve: suprascapular (C5,
C6)
action: lateral (external) rotation
and,
horizontal abduction of
arm
This is one of the four rotator cuff muscles. It has the same action as
the teres minor muscle, so Dr. J suggests that you learn these two muscles as a
group. The above drawings of the origin and insertion might help visualize
this information (red is the origin, blue the insertion).
