OneCCRI Programming Fall 2019

OneCCRI is all things community, engagement, and development for CCRI employees. We come together to strengthen our workplace and support student success. This fall, the Department of Institutional Equity and Human Resources has planned a range of programs, activities, and workshops to support employees to grow professionally and build community.

SEPTEMBER

9/11, 10 AM: Wisdom Wednesday

Wisdom Wednesday is a monthly gathering featuring the wisdom of one of our own! Join us for the first Wisdom Wednesday of the semester for coffee and insights from Associate Professor of Biology, Bruno Soffientino on the topic: “Pollutants Shmollutants: an introduction to chlorinated chemicals and how microbes can help us get rid of them.”

9/18, 2:00-3:30 PM: Mentoring Students of Color: Build Relationships that Foster Cross-Cultural Understanding, Trust & Accountability to Ensure Their Success (Webinar)

9/24, 9 AM: Professional Skills Workshop: Time Management with Tatianna Williams, Student Success Center Campus Coordinator

Effective time management skills can be difficult to master, but when implemented, can make a huge impact on effectiveness and satisfaction at work. This session will provide a way to get started with some tips and tricks on best managing your time and staying organized while balancing multiple priorities. RSVP here. 

OCTOBER

Wisdom Wednesday is a monthly Brown Bag lunch featuring the wisdom of one of our own! Bring your lunch and learn from CCRI faculty and staff about a topic of expertise. October's topic will be, "A Tale of Two Rhode Islands: The Coastland-Heartland Divide in Rhode Island Politics."

10/24, 1:00-4:00 PM: We Are CCRI: Fundamentals in Promoting an Inclusive Community
Flanagan Campus Faculty Dining Room  
Inclusive work and educational environments have been found to perform better and lead to student success. In this 3-hour workshop, participants will learn more about what inclusion means at a personal and organizational level and gain concrete skills in promoting an inclusive workplace that values employees for their unique skills, backgrounds, and contributions. Note: this workshop will be offered twice (October 24 and November 5). RSVP is required.

10/25, 12 PM: Fun Friday – New Faces Brown Bag Lunch  
Knight Campus Faculty Dining Room and Flanagan Campus Dining Room  
Bring your lunch – the cookies are on us! – and come meet the many new employees who have begun working at CCRI. Welcome these newcomers and reconnect with other colleagues during this informal gathering.  

10/29, 2:00-3:30 PM: Professional Skills Workshop: Public Speaking with Professor of English, Eileen James

According to A Speakers Guidebook, “[t]he ability to speak confidently and convincingly in public is a crucial skill for anyone who wants to take an active role in the classroom, workplace, and community.” In this lively, interactive session, participants will learn the principles for effective public speaking, view examples, and practice skills. November 18-22: Well-Being Week 
Throughout the week of November 18, employees can participate in a range of activities related to mental, physical, and financial well-being. Well-Being Week will feature workshops, resources, and other activities to support wellness and health amongst our employees. Details to come!

11/21, 10-11 AM: Professional Skills Workshop: Office Space to Mindful Place 
Knight 1040 
Join us for a workshop designed to explore several techniques to increase your awareness, creativity, and focus while simultaneously reducing stress, anxiety, and physical tension. There is significant evidence that the practice of mindfulness and meditation increases one’s overall well-being. Beginners welcome! RSVP here. 

11/29, 12 PM: Fun Friday – Turkey & Trivia  
Locations:  
Bring your Thanksgiving leftovers – the cookies are on us! – and come for an informal game of trivia with colleagues to unwind during a quiet week.
