The pre-kindergarten classroom on the Providence campus of CCRI is operated by Ready to Learn Providence (R2LP), a school-readiness initiative with the vision that all young children will be healthy and ready to learn. The classroom is one of 13 Pre-K sites in seven cities and towns funded by the Rhode Island Department of Education to demonstrate the value of high-quality early care and education. Aligned with the Rhode Island Early Learning Standards, the curriculum offers children a stimulating and playful environment in which they can explore and learn.

The Pre-K program is available at no cost to parents. Children, selected by lottery in August for the upcoming school year, must be 4 by September 1. To be eligible for the Liston Campus classroom, children must be residents of Providence.

Ready to Learn ProvidenceThe R2LP Classroom at CCRI, which accommodates 18 children, holds a five-star ranking from BrightStars, the state’s quality rating and improvement system. A head teacher fluent in English and Spanish, an assistant teacher and members of the R2LP AmeriCorps program staff the classroom. To learn more about the program, please visit

“We’ve always been excited about participating in the state’s Pre-K program,” says R2LP Director Leslie Gell. “Whether it’s through our many professional development programs for early-care providers already at work or by participating in a program like this, expanding access to high-quality child care is at the heart of everything we do. The research is clear that it makes an enormous difference not only when a child enters kindergarten but throughout his or her life.”

Here's what parents are saying ...

“The Pre-K Classroom at CCRI was an amazing experience that neither I nor my child will ever forget.”

“Your Pre-K teachers have fostered a new love of school for my son.”

“Thanks for loving our children.”
