Warwick, R.I. – September 22, 2021:  The CCRI Lady Knights volleyball team travelled to Northern Essex Community College in Haverhill, MA to face the Blue Knights of Northern Essex for a Region XXI league match.  The Lady Knights lost to the Blue Knights 3-1 25-22, 16-25, 18-25 & 16-25. With the loss CCRI falls to 1-1 on the overall and in Region XXI play.

The Lady Knights were coming off a 3-0 victory over Holyoke last week and were looking to maintain their momentum as they faced a perennial regional foe that always gives them a tough match.  CCRI came out of the gates with high intensity and were able to take the first game by the narrow margin of 25-22.  From there Northern Essex was able to make some adjustments that thwarted the attacking efforts of the Lady Knights.  Northern Essex took the second game 25-16 to tie the match 1-1.  CCRI was never able to gain momentum back as Northern Essex would take the next two games 25-18 and 25-16 to win by the match 3-1.

Leading the way for the Lady Knights was Co-Captain Outside Hitter Madison Capwell (Coventry, RI) with a team-leading 12 kills and two service aces to account for 14 points. Co-Captain Setter Kelsey Conway(Coventry, RI) helped the offense with a team with 20 assists, two kills, two solo blocks and a service ace.  Freshman Middle Blocker Courtney Essex (South Kingstown, RI) had two kills and three solo blocks for five total points and freshman Middle Hitter Taysia Hatch (Riverside, RI) added two service aces two solo blocks and a kill for five total points. The Lady Knights did not play very efficiently with 21 kills but 27 attack errors while Northern Essex had 25 kills and just 19 attack errors while also keeping the ball in play with 66 team digs.

The next game for the Lady Knights will be next Tuesday the 28th when they host Holyoke Community College for their Home Opener in Lincoln at 6pm.
