Warwick, R.I. – October 6, 2021: The CCRI Lady Knights Volleyball team hosted the Warriors of Massasoit Community College from Brockton, MA on Tuesday evening at the Flanagan Fieldhouse in Lincoln, RI. The Lady Knights defeated the Warriors 3-1: 25-21, 25-18, 26-28 & 26-24. With the victory CCRI improves to 2-3 overall and in Region XXI play.

This was the Lady Knights first match versus the Warriors who came into the match with an impressive 4-2 overall record and 3-1 record in Region XXI play. CCRI was trying to halt a three-game losing streak and were focused on getting a positive result. Both teams were evenly matched so the team that executed their game plan the best was going to emerge victorious. CCRI was able to take the first two games with relative ease 25-21 and 25-18. However, in the third game, both teams battled hard and extended the game until Massasoit came away with the hard fought 28-26 victory. In the fourth game both teams picked-up where they left off by battling very closely but it was the Lady Knights who would come away with the hard fought 26-24. The Lady Knights on the hard fought match 3-1.

Leading the way for the Lady Knights statistically was freshman Courtney Essex (South Kingstown, RI) with a team-leading 19 kills with three aces for 22 total points while also adding six digs. Also having an excellent match was freshman Savanna Martinez (Central Falls, RI) who helped with nine kills and five aces for 14 points while also adding 15 digs. Co-Captain Kelsey Conway (Coventry, RI) ran the offense well with 45 assists, to go with five kills, two aces and six digs. Freshman Libero Aliana Winn (Lincoln, RI) defended well with a team-high 26 digs while delivering a co-team-high five aces. Freshman Taysia Hatch (Riverside, RI) had seven kills while freshman Kara Cournoyer (Burrillville, RI) added five kills and an ace.

The next matches for the Lady Knights will be Saturday the 9th when they host Massasoit CC and MassBay CC for a tri-match starting at 10:30am. Match schedule for Saturday is as follows: 10:30am CCRI vs MassBay then MassBay vs Massasoit at 12noon and CCRI vs Massasoit at 2pm.
