No. 10 Ranked Knights Outlast Quincy 88-80 in OT!

Warwick, R.I. – January 7, 2021: The No. 10 ranked (NJCAA DIII Men’s Basketball poll 11/3/22) travelled to Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, MA to face the Granite of Quincy College in their First Region XXI showdown of 2022. The Knights defeated the Granite 88-80 in Overtime. With the victory CCRI improves to 9-2 overall and 6-0 in Region XXI play.

The Knights and Granite were meeting for the second time this season. In their first meeting at CCRI on November 30th the Knights survived an early 11-2 deficit to defeat the Granite 90-61 with an tremendous team effort in the second half. This game would be much closer affair.

In the first half both teams played well but in different ways. The Knights pounded the ball inside to their big men while the Granite shot the lights out from the 3-piount arc making nine threes in the first half. The Knights countered with great efforts from their frontcourt of co-captain Mitchel Noresca (East Providence, RI) 10 points, Levi King (Westerly, RI) seven points and Theo Jadotte (Providence, RI) six points. Both teams went into the halftime break tied 39-39.

In the second half the shots were not falling at the same rate they were I the first half for the Granite but they still managed to put up 35 points, with more than half of that coming from Douglas Alves nine points and Ismail Fofana nine points. Freshman point guard RJ Pina (East Providence, RI) led the way for the Knights in the second half with 12 points While Levi King added seven points and Mitchel Noresca six points. Regulation ended with both teams deadlocked 74-74.

In the overtime period the Knights took over the game outscoring the Granite 14-6 to win by the final count of 88-80. The Knights were led in the overtime period by Mitchel Noresca with six points while Theo Jadotte and Michael Harris (Cranston, RI) each scored four points apiece.

The Knights had five players score in double-figures with seven making the scoring column led by co-captain Mitchel Noresca with 22 points with 18 rebounds for his 10th Double-Double in 11 games. Noresca is second in the country with 14.1 rebounds per game. In addition, with 682 career rebounds Noresca is closing in on the CCRI Career Rebounding record of 761 set by Stretch Edwards in 1973. Noresca already owns the single game 29 and single season 523 rebounds records at CCRI. Also having a big game was Theo Jadotte who charted a monster Double-Double with 14 points and a game-high 21 rebounds. RJ Pina Scored 18 points with seven rebounds, two steals and an assist. Levi King scored 14 points with five rebounds and two assists. Connor Warner (Westerly, RI) scored 10 points with three rebounds and an assist while Michael Harris added seven points, a game-high six assists and five rebounds.

The Knights game scheduled for Saturday vs Southern Maine CC has been postponed so their next game will be Thursday January 18th when they will travel to New Haven, CT to play the Lions of Gateway Community College for a Region XXI showdown at 7pm.
