Noresca Leads No. 9 Ranked Knights over Gateway 89-63!

Warwick, R.I. – January 19, 2022: The No. 9 ranked (NJCAA DIII Men’s Basketball Poll 1/18/22) traveled to Gateway Community College in New Haven, CT on Tuesday evening for a Region XXI showdown with the Lions. The Knights defeated the Lions 89-63. With the victory CCRI improves to 10-2 overall and a perfect 8-0 in Region XXI play.

The Knights were playing in their second game after the new year and were looking to continue their winning ways versus the Lions of Gateway who entered the game with a 2-7 overall record. The Knights came out playing hard, never wanting to take anything for granted, and imposed their will upon the Lions by pounding the ball inside taking advantage of their size and athleticism. Knights’ Sophomore co-captain Mitchel Noresca (East Providence, RI) was unstoppable as he poured in 18 of his game high 31 points in the first half. Noresca was assisted by freshman big man Levi King (Westerly, RI) who added nine first half points. Freshman point guard RJ Pina (East Providence, RI) added six points including a 3-pointer to help lead The Knights to a 47-34 halftime advantage.

In the second half the frontcourt duo of Mitchel Noresca and Levi King combined for 25 points while co-captain Luke Fusaro (Charlestown, RI) added seven points including a 3-pointer as the Knights outscored the Lions 42-29 to cruise to the 89-63 victory.

Leading the way for the Knights was co-captain Mitchel Noresca charting his 25th career Double-Double with an impressive overall scoring line consisting of a game-high 31 points and game-high 22 rebounds with four steals, three blocked shots and an assist. It was also the third time in Noresca’s career that he has amassed at least 30 points and 20 rebounds in a game. For his career Noresca is only one of three CCRI players to ever record over 700 career rebounds with a current career total of 704 rebounds he is just 21 behind Edvaldo Ferreira ’17 who had 725 career rebounds and 57 away from Walt “Stretch” Edwards CCRI Career Rebounding Record of 761 set in 1973.

Also having a great game for the Knights was Levi King who scored 21 points, including a 3-pointer, with seven assists, six rebounds, three steals and a blocked shot. Co-captain Luke Fusaro was also scored in double-digits with 12 points including two 3-pointers. Freshman forward Theo Jadotte (Providence, RI) added eight points, eight rebounds, three blocked shots, two steals and an assist. Freshman point guard RJ Pina added eight points, four rebounds and three assists.

The next game for the Knights will be Thursday the 20th when they will travel to Springfield Technical Community College for a Region XXI showdown at 7pm as part of a doubleheader with the Lady Knights who will play at 5pm.
