Lady Knights Go 3-2 at CCRI Volleyball Invite!

Warwick, R.I. – September 16, 2019: The CCRI Lady Knights volleyball team hosted the 2019 Volleyball Classic Invitational this past Saturday and Sunday at the CCRI Flanagan Fieldhouse in Lincoln. CCRI hosted Northern Essex Community College from Haverhill, MA, Bunker Hill Community College from Charlestown, MA, Massasoit Community College form Brockton, MA and Fashion Institute from New York, NY. The Lady Knights went 3-2 over the weekend defeating northern Essex and Bunker Hill 3-0 on Saturday. On Sunday they defeated Northern Essex again 3-0 but fell to Massasoit and FIT 0-3. With the 3-2 record over the weekend CCRI is now 5-5 overall and 4-2 in Region XXI play.

CCRI defeats Northern Essex: 25-12, 25-17 & 25-20

Sophomore Captain Manuela Restrepo (Central Falls, RI) led the way for the Lady Knights with four Kills and two Aces for six total points. Freshmen Alexis Baffoni (Coventry, RI) and Marilyn McKay (Warwick, RI) were tied for the team-lead with six Kills apiece for CCRI. Sophomore Christa Fitzsimmons (Warwick, RI) had a team-leading six Ace and Mia Shola (North Kingstown, RI) had a team-leading 10 Digs. Sydney Trudeau (Cumberland, RI) had two Kills and four Aces while Gabriella Blumenstock (Warwick, RI) added 17 Assists for the Lady Knights.

CCRI defeats Bunker Hill: 25-14, 25-23 & 25-16

Freshman Gabriella Blumenstock (Warwick, RI) had an excellent match with a team-high six Kills adding fic Digs, three Solo Blocks and an Ace for 10 total points. Freshman Sydney Trudeau also had a great match with five Kills, two Aces and three Digs for seven points. Freshman Setter Joanna Wong (Cranston, RI) ran the Lady Knights’ offense well with 20 Assists, three Aces and two Digs. Alexis Baffoni added four Kills, four, Digs and an Ace while Mia Shola played great defensively with a team-high 12 Digs and an Ace.

Sunday

CCRI defeats Northern Essex: 25-7, 25-8 & 25-14

The Lady Knights had an excellent match to kick-off day two of the CCRI Volleyball classic as they dispatched Northern Essex in three sets with a dominant performance. Leading the Lady Knights was Freshman Alexis Baffoni with a season-high 10 Kills and six Aces. Also having a great match was Marilyn McKay with six Kills, two Aces and two Solo Blocks. Gabriella Blumenstock and Joanna Wong ran the CCRI offense very well with 11 Assists and nine Assists respectively.

CCRI falls Massasoit CC: 21-25, 20-25 & 23-25

The Lady Knights were looking to avenge their loss from earlier in the week to Massasoit CC. However, the Warriors had other plans as they were able outlast CCRI in a very close three setter. Alexis Baffoni had another very good match but it was not enough to get the Lady Knights a victory. Baffoni had nine Kills, with three Aces and a Solo Block. Captain Manuela Restrepo also played very well also with nine Kills. Joanna Wong rounded out the top performers for CCRI with 14 assists.

CCRI falls to FIT: 16-25, 18-25 & 18-25

The Lady Knights knew they would be in for a tough match versus FIT who is always one of the top Division III volleyball programs in the country with a roster from all over the United States. Fashion Institute swept the match in three sets but CCRI still played very well despite the loss. Freshman Sydney Trudeau stepped-up big time in this match with a season-high nine Kills while adding two Aces. Alexis Baffoni had eight Kills and one Solo Block. Freshman Setter Joanna Wong added 19 Assists but the Lady Knights could not muster enough offense to overcome the Tigers of Fashion Institute.

The next match for the Lady Knights will be next Saturday at 11am when they travel to play New Hampshire Tech in Concord, NH.
