Lawrence and Kearney Run PB’s at NJCAA XC Nationals!

Warwick, R.I. – November 4, 2019: The CCRI men’s and women’s Cross Country teams competed at the Division III NJCAA National Championships hosted by Holyoke Community College and held at Stanley Park in Westfield MA on Saturday. CCRI had four participants total in the two races so they did not register a team score. The two runners the women’s 5k race were Ashley Lawrence (Barrington, RI) and Madeline Holden (North Kingstown, RI). In two runners in the men’s 8k race were Gavin Kearney (Coventry, RI) and Brandon Bun (Pawtucket, RI).

The women’s meet was won by Suffolk CC NY while the individual winner of the 5k race was Alexandra Smith of Suffolk CC. Ashley Lawrence for CCRI placed 62nd in the 121 women’s field with a personal-best time of 24 minutes 30.49 seconds. Madeline Holden placed 84th in a time of 25:55.12.

The men’s meet was won by Mineral Area College with 54 points. The winner of the men’s 8k race was Edwin Kirainoi of St. Charles College in a time of 26 minutes 30.96 seconds. Gavin Kearney of CCRI ran a personal-best time of 34:51.83 to place 172nd in a field of 200 runners. Brandon Bun placed 187th in a time of 37:53.54.

Head Coach Gregg Cornell commented after the Meet: “Good to see PB’s by two freshmen in the last meet of the season. It gives hope for the 2020 program.”
