Lady Knights Beat Bunker Hill 75-47 in Boston!

Warwick, R.I. – November 8, 2019: The CCRI Lady Knights Basketball Team traveled to Bunker Community College in Charlestown, MA (neighborhood in Boston) to play the Bulldogs in a Region XXI inter division game. The Lady Knights defeated the Bulldogs 75-47. With the victory CCRI improves to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in region XXI play.
It was the home opener for Bunker Hill and the Bulldogs began the game playing with great intensity to defend their home court. It was the third game of the year for the Lady Knights but they received a boost by playing with nine of their 10 rostered players as opposed to their recent road trip where they only had six players.
In the first quarter both teams battled pretty evenly with the Lady Knights emerging with two point advantage with the score 14-12. CCRI was paced by Ireauna Pegus (Middletown, RI) who scored six points while Janessa Perry (Charlestown, RI) and Nicole Chamberlain (West Warwick, RI) each added a 3-pointer apiece. Adanna Hector did her part for the Bulldogs scoring seven points to help keep pace with the Lady Knights.
With a two point lead Head Coach Doug Haynes made some defensive adjustments for the Lady Knights which allowed them to take control of the game and extend their lead. CCRI held Bunker Hill to just eight points in the second quarter while rattling off 23 points with a balanced attack which included six points from Jada Burton (Providence, RI), five points from Ireauna Pegus, four points from Reilly Hodge (Wakefield, RI) and another 3-pointer from Nicole Chamberlain. At the half CCRI had a commanding 37-20 lead.
In the third quarter once again Bunker Hill came out with tremendous intensity which allowed them to have their highest scoring quarter of the game with 14 points but the Lady Knights still outscored them17 -14 led by six points from Jada Burton and five from Kelsey Kozlin (West Warwick, RI).
With one quarter remaining CCRI led 54-34 and did not take their foot off the gas pedal as they scored 21 more points while holding the Bulldogs to just 13 to cruse to the 75-47 Region XXI road victory.
Leading the way for the Lady Knights was Ireauna Pegus who was tied for game-high with 16 points including two 3-pointers with six rebounds and three steals. Jada Burton also scored a game-high 16 points with four rebounds and a steal. Kelsey Kozlin had a very good game with 11 points including a 3-pointer with six rebounds and four steals. Nicole Chamberlain scored 10 points including two 3-pointers. Rounding out the Lady Knights who scored in double-figures was Janessa Perry who came off the bench to add 11 points including a game-high three 3-pointers with two rebounds and a steal.
The next game for the Lady Knights will be Tuesday the 12th when they travel to Orange County Community College in Middletown, NY for a game versus the Colts with a 6pm tip-off.
