Lady Knights Surpass Senators 64-40 in Stone Ridge!

Warwick, R.I. – January 27, 2020: the CCRI Lady Knights basketball team traveled to Ulster County Community College in Stone Ridge, NY to play the Senators in a game on Sunday afternoon. The Lady Knights defeated the Senators 64-40. With the victory CCRI improves to 5-18 on the season.

The Lady Knights have been playing much better over their past two games and looks to build upon that momentum in this game versus the Senators of Ulster County. The Lady Knights snapped a nine-game losing streak with the victory over the Senators. CCRI jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first quarter. Sharpshooting sophomore Co-Captain Nicole Chamberlain (West Warwick, RI) came out of the gates firing to set the pace for the Lady Knights with 12 first quarter points including two 3-pointers. Co-Captain Reilly Hodge (Wakefield, RI) also helped with the quick start for CCRI adding four points to give CCRI a 20-8 lead after the first quarter.

The Lady Knights kept the pedal to the metal in the second quarter as they scored 19 points led by 12 points from freshman Co-Captain Jazlynn DiZoglio (Providence, RI). With two of their best quarters of the year the Lady Knights took a commanding 39-10 lead into the halftime break and showed no signs of letting up.

The Lady Knights came out of the halftime break and remained focused and playing hard and outscored Ulster 19-9. The CCRI offense was spurred on by six points from Ireauna Pegus (Middletown, RI), five from Nicole Chamberlain and four from Jazlynn DiZoglio (Providence, RI). With the score 58-19 after the third quarter ended CCRI let their foot off the gas and cruised to the 64-40 road victory in Stone Ridge.

Leading the way to victory for the Lady Knights was sophomore Co-Captain Nicole Chamberlain with a massive double-double consisting of a game-high 20 points including four 3-pointers and 12 rebounds while adding four assists and four steals. Freshman Co-Captain Jazlynn DiZoglio also had a game-high 20 points with eight assists, seven steals and five rebounds. Ireauna Pegus also charted a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds while adding three blocked shots, an assist and a steal. Sophomore Co-Captain Faith Fahnbulleh (Providence, RI) did a remarkable job on the boards ripping down a career-high 17 rebounds to go with four points, a blocked shot, two assists and a steal.

The next game for the Lady Knights will be Thursday the 30th when they travel to New Haven, CT to play the Lions of Gateway Community College at 4:00pm
