Lady Knights’ Lead Overcome by Colts Comeback

Warwick, R.I. – January 27, 2020: The CCRI Lady Knights basketball team hosted the Colts of Orange County Community College from Middletown, NY to the Cullen Fieldhouse on Saturday. The Lady Knights lost to the Colts 60-47. With the loss CCRI falls to 4-18 on the season.

The CCRI Lady Knights hosted the Colts on Saturday in a rematch of their contest from November 12th which the Lady Knights received a victorious outcome after it was discovered Orange had an ineligible player. The Lady Knights were looking to get a victory on their home court versus the Colts and came out of the gates firing on all cylinders. CCRI amassed 20 points in the first quarter led by sophomore Co-Captain Nicole Chamberlain (West Warwick, RI) who scored eight of her game-high 18 points in the first including two 3-pointers. Jazlynn DiZoglio (Providence, RI) had seven points including a 3-pointer and Ireauna Pegus (Middletown, RI) added five to the Lady Knights’ tally including a 3-pointer. CCRI led by six points after a quarter as the Colts scored 14 in the first led by Candace McCutcheon who scored eight points of her game-high 18 points.

Both teams traded baskets on the second quarter with the matching output of 14 points. Once again Nicole Chamberlain led the way for CCRI with five points including a three. CCRI shared the ball well I the quarter with six players making it to the scoring column. Orange County would not go away as Candace McCutcheon added four more points assisted by Tatiana Williams who also added four points. The Lady Knights sent into the halftime break with a 34-28 lead.

In the third the Lady Knights came out flat as a pancake and were unable to regain the vim and vigor that brought them to a six point halftime lead. The CCRI offense stalled and their energy on defense was not nearly as intense as the Colts took control of the game. CCRI only managed three points while Orange County poured in 16 points to take a 44-37 lead into the final quarter.

In the fourth quarter the Lady Knights offense was still sputtering though Nicole Chamberlain added five points including a three. However, once again the Colts put up 16 points on CCRI to pull away for the 60-47 victory.

Leading the way for the Lady Knights was sophomore Co-Captain Nicole Chamberlain with a game-high 18 points including four 3-pointers with three rebounds and two assists. Freshman Ireauna Pegus charted a double-double with 10 points including two 3-ponters, with a game-high eight steals and three assists. Freshman Co-Captain Jazlynn DiZoglio added nine points, six steals, five assists and two rebounds.

The Lady Knights have no time to rest as the travel to Ulster County Community College in Stone Ridge, NY to play the Senators for a game at 1:00pm.
