Warwick, R.I. – January 13, 2020: The CCRI Lady Knights basketball team concluded their play in the 2020 CCRI Basketball Invitational on Sunday by hosting the Division I Mustangs of Monroe College from New Rochelle, NY on Sunday. The Lady Knights lost to the Mustangs 80-40. With the loss CCRI falls to 4-13 on the season.

After playing their sixth ranked team of the season on Saturday at the 2020 CCRI Invitational the Lady Knights had another tough opponent to face in the Division I Mustangs of Monroe College on Sunday. Monroe is another team that like to full court press while also having five players six feet tall or taller. The Lady Knights have no player over five foot nine inches but they were not going to back down from the challenge of the Mustangs. The passion and intensity was there for the Lady Knights but the full court pressure and size definitely affected the play of CCRI as Monroe outscored CCRI 26-6 in the first quarter. In the second quarter the Lady Knights began to play much better defense as they held Monroe to just 12 points but only managed to score five themselves. However, when you factor in the size difference and the fact the CCRI is DII while Monroe is DI it was a very good quarter of play for the Lady Knights.

In the third quarter the Lady Knights began to play a little better offensively and score 12 points led by five points from Co-Captain Jazlynn DiZoglio (Providence, RI) which included a 3-pointer. Monroe answered with 25 points to take a 63-23 lead into the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter the Lady Knights matched the output of the Mustangs as both teams scored 17 but Monroe went on to win by the final tally of 80-40.

Leading the way for the Lady Knights was Co-Captain Jazlynn DiZoglio with 10 points including two 3-pointers with six assists four steals and two rebounds. Co-Captain Nicole Chamberlain (West Warwick, RI) had a team-high 11 points with a 3-pointer, six rebounds and two steals. Janessa Perry (Charlestown, RI) had seven points, six rebounds, two steals and two assists. Co-Captain Faith Fahnbulleh (Providence, RI) had 10 rebounds for the second game in a row with two assists, and two points.

The next game for the Lady Knights will be Tuesday the 14th when they will travel to play the Naval Academy Prep School in Newport, RI at 4:00pm.
