Knights’ Sharpshooters Sink Roxbury 93-50!

Warwick, R.I. – January 24, 2020: The CCRI Knights men’s basketball team hosted the Roxbury Community College Tigers Thursday night. The Knights’ offense exploded, particularly from three-point range as they defeated the Tigers 93-50. The win improves CCRI’s season record to 12-7 overall and 8-0 in Region XXI play.
Thursday evening was the first of 12 straight Region XXI games to end the regular season for the Knights who started well at 7-0 in the region contests to date. CCRI would also start the game against Roxbury well as they took no time to get the offense going and opened a 30-13 lead with 7:40 left in the first half.
The Knights were led through the opening 20 minutes by sophomore co-captain Dylan Durante (Johnston, RI) registering 13 first half points with three three-pointers. Fellow sophomore co-captain Elijah Lewis (Bridgeport, CT) tallied 11 points before the break, draining an additional three three-pointers to match Durante. At the halfway mark CCRI led Roxbury by 24 points, 51-27.
The second half continued the themes of the first half. CCRI was deadly from range, draining 17 three-pointers and shooting 53.1% of their shots from beyond the arc. On the defensive side of the ball, CCRI was able to steal the ball 13 times to take possession away from Roxbury. In the paint the Knights ripped down 38 total rebounds which was down from their average of 45.2 per game but their accurate shooting accounted for the lack of rebounds. CCRI would defeat Roxbury convincingly 93-50.
CCRI was led by Dylan Durante with a career-high 25 points shooting 7-12 from three-point range and adding a team leading four steals, one rebound and one assist. Elijah Lewis contributed 15 points, seven assists, five rebounds and three steals. Freshman Mitchel Noresca (East Providence, RI) tore down 12 rebounds with eight points, two assists and one steal. Sophomore co-captain Jeremy Remigio (Providence, RI) chipped in with 11 points, eight rebounds, six assists, two steals and one block. Freshman Mikey Gamble (Hartford, CT) contributed 11 points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals. Freshman Luke Fusaro (Westerly, RI) added 11 points and one assist from the bench.
The CCRI Knights men’s basketball will next be in action on Saturday, January 25th at 12:30 p.m. as they travel to Worcester, MA to take on the Quinsigamond Community College Wyverns.
