Warwick, R.I. – February 7, 2020: The CCRI Lady Knights basketball team hosted the Bulldogs of Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) for a Region XXI inter league game at the Cullen Fieldhouse Thursday evening. The Lady Knights were celebrating Sophomore Day by honoring their four sophomores: Arionna Ranglin (Cranston, RI), Maddie Brassard (Pawtucket, RI), Co-Captain Faith Fahnbulleh (Providence, RI) and Co-Captain Nicole Chamberlain (West Warwick, RI). CCRI lost to the BHCC 66-56. With the loss CCRI falls to 6-20 overall and 3-6 in Region XXI play.

The Lady Knights were packed with emotion after going through their Sophomore Day celebration which took place before the opening tip of the game. With that emotion CCRI came out of the gates and blitz the Bulldogs to an unbelievable 17-0 run to start the game. The Lady Knights were paced by sophomore Co-Captain Nicole Chamberlain who poured in 11 of her career-high 23 points in the first. Bunker Hill would close the quarter with a 7-1 run to give CCRI an 18-7 lead after one quarter.

As the Second quarter began Bunker Hill began to build offensive momentum while the Lady Knights offense began to stagnate. The Bulldogs duo of Star Bradham and Adanna Hector both tallied six points to lead the Bulldog’s comeback as they erupted for 21 second quarter points while holding CCRI to just eight points to take a 28-26 lead into halftime.

In the third quarter CCRI began to once again create some offensive rhythm and scored 16 points led by nine points on three 3-pointers from freshman Ireauna Pegus (Middletown, RI). Bunker Hill countered the CCRI attack scoring 20 points led by Adanna Hector and Efehi Edugie who scored seven points and five points respectively to take a 48-42 lead into the fourth quarter.

Trailing by six points going into the final quarter the Lady Knights attempted to mount a valiant comeback on Sophomore Day and emerge with the victory. Sophomore Nicole Chamberlain led the charge scoring nine points and Ireauna Pegus added a 3-pointer but their efforts were not enough as Bradham and Hector both scored seven points to hold off the CCRI charge and win by the final count of 66-56.

Leading the way for the Lady Knights was sophomore Co-Captain Nicole Chamberlain with a double-double consisting of a career-high 23 points including four 3-pointers with 10 rebounds while adding another career-high with five assists. Freshman Ireauna Pegus also had a double-double with 16 points including four 3-pointers and game-high 16 rebounds while adding two steals and one assist. Freshman Co-Captain Jazlynn DiZoglio (Providence, RI) added 10 points including two 3-pointers with four rebounds, two assists, two steals and a blocked shot.

The next game for the Lady Knights will be Saturday the 8th at 2pm when they will host the Express of Monroe College-Bronx at the Cullen Fieldhouse in Warwick.
