Lady Knights Split matches at NHTI Tourney Saturday!

Warwick, R.I. – September 24, 2018: the CCRI Lady Knights volleyball team traveled to New Hampshire Technical Institute in Concord, NH Saturday to compete in the NHTI Invitational. The Lady Knights split their two matches defeating Word of Life 3-0 but falling to Morton College 3-1. With the split CCRI is now 6-7 on the season.

Match 1: CCRI defeats Word of life (3-0): 25-19, 26-24 & 25-7

The Lady Knights controlled the match with Word of Life from beginning to end with a slight hiccup in the second set where they had to go into a little extra time but still managed to win in three straight sets. Leading the way for CCRI was Tri-Captain Sam Elkas (Cumberland, RI) who had a team-high seven Kills and on Solo Block for eight total points. Elkas was helped by Jasharilee Diaz (Central Falls, RI) who had six Kills and two Solos Blocks also for eight total points. Also helping CCRI defensively was Danielle D'Andrea (Lincoln, IL) and Paola Almarante (Woonsocket, RI) with 10 digs apiece.

Match 2: CCRI falls to Morton College (1-3): 25-21, 18-25, 18-25 & 23-25

The Lady Knights were able to take the first set 25-21 but Morton was able to make some in match adjustments to right their ship to take the final three sets and with the match 3-1. Leading the way for CCRI was Tri-Captain Ivelisse Serrano Vargas (Providence, RI) with 16 kills, two Service Aces and two Solo Blocks for 20 total points with 16 Digs and Manuela Restrepo (Central Falls, RI) with eight Kills for the Lady Knights. Also helping CCRI was Jasharilee Diaz with seven Kills and Danielle D'Andrea did an excellent job directing the offense with 43 Assists in the match while adding 13 Digs, a Kill and an Ace.

The next matches for the Lady Knights will be Saturday the 29th when they travel to Montgomery College in Rockville, MD for a Tri-Match versus the Raptors and Allegany College of Maryland beginning at 9:00am.
