Warwick, R.I. – September 18, 2017: Five members of the CCRI Men’s and women’s cross country teams traveled to Dartmouth, MA on Saturday for the UMass- Dartmouth Cross Country Invitational. The UMD Invite races were the first meets of the year for CCRI. The Lady Knights women competed in the sub-varsity meet while the Knights’ men competed in the varsity meet.
In the women’s Sub-varsity race Allison Lenox (North Kingstown, RI) placed 99th with a time of 23 minutes 59 seconds. Saramarie Cerullo (Smithfield, RI) placed 131st in a time of 26:08. Both ladies ran very well in their first ever collegiate cross country events. With only two women running CCRI ran as individuals with no team score over the 5k distance.
In the men’s varsity race Kelder Cardoso (Pawtucket, RI) placed 221st in a time of 31:52. Cardoso was followed by Alejandro Tapia (Providence, RI) who placed 261st in a time of 34:12. Rounding out the CCRI competitors was Steven Couture (North Kingstown, RI) who placed 283rd with a time of 37:22. This was also the first collegiate cross country meet for the CCRI men as well. The Knights also ran as individuals with no team score over the 8k distance.
Head coach Gregg Cornell commented after the meet “This was a good start to the season for the five athletes who ran.”
The next meet for the CCRI runner will be this Saturday the 23rd when they travel to Franklin Park in Boston, MA to compete in the Codfish Bowl Invitational. The women’s race begins at 11:00am and the men at 11:45am.
