Warwick, R.I. – October 11, 2017: The CCRI Lady Knights traveled to Bunker Hill Community College in Charlestown, MA for a Region XXI battle vs the Bulldogs. CCRI defeated the Bulldogs 3-0. With the victory, the Lady Knights improve to 18-7 on the season and 4-0 in Region XXI play.

CCRI beats Bunker Hill CC (3-0): 25-13, 25-15 & 25-8

The Lady Knights have been on a competitive roll lately and wanted to continue with a quick victory over BHCC. But, after a long van ride the girls came out a little sluggish letting the Bulldogs build a lead of 6-2 but then woke up and brought their game to BHCC for a very convincing three-set victory 25-13, 15-15 and 25-8.

Leading the way for the Lady Knights was freshman Sam Elkas (Cumberland, RI) who had an outstanding match with six kills and hitting .500 while adding three aces, three blocks, and five digs. Ivelisse Serrano (Providence, RI) got the start at Outside Hitter and didn't disappoint with six kills of her own, an ace, and 17 digs. Co-Captain Megan Johns (Oakland, RI) had five kills while Tara Watters (West Warwick, RI) led the team with nine kills, three aces, and 13 digs. Shannon Moran (North Smithfield, RI) had a solid start at Opposite Hitter with seven KEY digs and two kills one of which sealed the deal for the Lady Knights. Co-Captain Setter Dahlia Tirado (Providence, RI) led the offense, spreading the ball around, to the tune of 29 assists off of Emily Stengel’s (Cumberland, RI) 12 digs. Dahlia also added three aces and two kills.

Head Coach Will Amaral was pleased with the quick victory over our Region XXI opponent. He commented: “I like how the girls came into this match and didn't take it lightly. We are heading into our last home tournament of the season (10/21) and want to go into the post-season on a high note!"

The final matches for the Lady Knights will be Saturday, October the 21st beginning at 9:00am when they will host the CCRI Northern Invitational versus: MassBay CC, Bunker Hill CC, Frederick CC and Lackawanna College.
