Warwick, R.I. – November 14, 2017: The CCRI Lady Knights basketball team hosted the undefeated Jayhawks of Jamestown Community College from Jamestown, NY for a game on Saturday evening. The Lady Knights rallied to overcome the undefeated Jayhawks 70-68. With the victory CCRI improved to 3-1 on the season.

The Lady Knights were playing a much taller and very fundamentally sound Jayhawks squad. The size and excellent ball movement helped Jamestown jump out to an 18-8 lead by the end of the first quarter. The Lady Knights duo of Nia Mims (Newark, NJ) and Kat Raposo (Warwick, RI) combined for 12 of CCRI’s 18 second quarter points to cut the Jamestown lead to just four points by halftime with the score 30-26. CCRI continued their comeback in the third quarter spurred by Co-Captain Tiondra Hands (Boynton Beach, FL) draining three 3-pointers, her third giving the Lady Knights a 35-34 lead. The Lady Knights held the lead with another 3-pointer from Co-Captain Kelsey Hernandez (New Britain CT) and two baskets from Jada Littlejohn (Providence, RI), giving CCRI a 48-47 lead going into the final quarter. In the fourth, the duo of Littlejohn and Mims were the deciding factor with an inside-outside attack with Littlejohn slashing to the basket to score eight points and Mims sinking two 3-pointers including one to give CCRI a 69-66 lead with under a minute left. Tiondra Hands sank a free throw with under 10 seconds left to secure the comeback victory for the Lady Knights.
