Warwick, R.I. – November 6, 2017: The CCRI Lady Knights basketball team continued play in the Frederick CC Tip-off Tournament on Sunday by playing the Cougars of Fredrick CC in the Championship game. CCRI beat the Cougars 72-54. With the victory the Lady Knights improve to 2-1 on the season.

The Lady Knights knew that playing the hosting Cougars of Frederick in their Tip-off Tourney would be a tough task. CCRI quickly found itself in a hole as the Cougars scored the first 10 points of the game before Co-Captain Tiondra Hands (Boynton, Beach, FL) sank a 3-pointer. The Lady Knight battled back to cut the lead to just five points by the end of the first quarter as they trailed 20-15. The Lady Knights erupted for 21 points in the second quarter led by Kat Raposo (Warwick, RI) who poured in 12 points including two 3-pointers which helped CCRI gain a 36-31 lead going into halftime. Both teams played evenly in the third quarter scoring 13 points apiece making the score 49-44 going into the fourth quarter. CCRI saved their best for last as they scored 23 points in the final frame with the balanced scoring of seven players led by Nia Mims’ (Newark, NJ) eight points, with six from Jada Littlejohn (Providence, RI) and five from Raposo to pull away for the 72-54 victory.

Leading the way for the Lady Knights was freshman Kat Raposo with a game-high 21 points with two 3-pointers, four steals and four rebounds followed by Nia Mims who charted her first double-double of the year with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Also helping CCRI to victory was Jada Littlejohn with eight points and eight rebounds while D’Asia Allen (Providence, RI) also had eight points and Co-Captain Tiondra Hands (Boynton Beach, FL) added seven points and four assists.

Head Coach Brittany Brown commented after the big tournament victory: “We had a reality check playing against NAPS and we had to go back to drawing board. Us as a coaching staff had to break them down to build them back up. So hopefully we can continue to build upon this success.”

The next game for the Lady Knights will be Saturday the 11th at 5:00pm when they will host Jamestown CC for their Home Opener at the Cullen Fieldhouse in Warwick, RI.
