CCRI – 12 Quinsigamond – 0 (7 Innings)

The Knights aimed to keep the momentum from their convincing victory over Holyoke Community College the day before as the faced off with the Wyverns. The game started rather slow paced, with both teams struggling to get the ball into play. Both defenses conceded an error, providing the opposition with a base runner, but neither team capitalized.

The Knights defense lit the spark that kicked off the action when the Wyverns had runners on first a second with one out. The pitcher for the Knights; Kyle McCann (Coventry, RI), forced the batter into a 4-6-3 double play to escape the inning unscathed.

When the Knights next got up to bat they would score six runs. The second time through the order saw lead-off batter Owen Wosleger (East Hampton, CT) get things started with a double to right field. Austin Davis (Hollywood, FL) would reach on an error by the third baseman which scored Anthony Padilla (Vega Alta, Puerto Rico) for the first run of the game. Steve Cochrane (Guilford, CT) followed this up with a two-run double to left field to make it 3-0.

The scoring continued when Jarrad Grossguth (Coventry, RI) went to steal second forcing the throw from the catcher but stopped short attempting to force a pickle. Steve Cochrane took the opportunity and bolted for home, beating the throw and Grossguth would take second making the score 4-0. Michael Castillo (Cranston, RI) hit a two-run double scoring Grossguth and Zach Odsen (Providence, RI). The Knights would carry a 6-0 lead into the top of the fourth.

Pitching for the Knights was Kyle McCann. McCann threw seven scoreless innings and allowed just three hits while tallying two strikeouts. Combining this with the solid defensive play behind him, CCRI were able to shut down the Wyvern offense.

The Knights would score one more run in the fourth when Owen Wosleger scored off a Jarrad Grossguth sac-fly. CCRI would then score five runs in the fifth in route to a 12-0 win over the Wyverns.
