Warwick, R.I. – March 28, 2018: The CCRI Knights baseball team held yet another home game this week as they welcomed the Cougars of Holyoke Community College. This game was all CCRI as they went on a tear at the plate scoring 25 runs in a five-inning game. The final score read CCRI 25, Holyoke 1. This win improves CCRI's season record to 7-9 with a 2-1 record in Region XXI play.

CCRI – 25 Holyoke – 1 (5 Innings)

The Knights were looking to bounce back from a tough loss the day prior. CCRI's defense successfully wiggled out of a tight squeeze when the Cougars had runners on the corners with no outs. Joey Barter (Coventry, RI) took a ground ball at third and was able to throw the runner out at the plate for the first out. The Knights then turned a 1-6-3 double play on the next at bat to escape the inning without injury.

The offense would make their noise starting in the bottom of the second inning when Barter hit a two run double to left field and then later himself scored off an Austin Davis (Hollywood, FL) single up the right side.

The Knights carried a 3-0 lead into the third inning where they would strike again. Zach Odsen (Providence, RI) slapped a double into play that score Jarrad Grossguth (Coventry, RI) from second. This kicked off a six-run inning for CCRI as they took a 9-0 lead.

The Cougars would score the lone run in the top of the fourth off a single up the left side, scoring the runner from second. The CCRI defense once again buckled down and would not allow another run. The Cougars did come close to another run scored when CCRI catcher Exavier Santiago (Bridgeport, CT) partially smothered a wild pitch, the runner on third gambled and attempted to come home, but Santiago quickly scrambled and tossed the ball to Korey Fijal (Johnston, RI) at the plate to tag the runner out.

Fijal got the start on the mound for the Knights, throwing four innings, allowing just one earned run and two hits while sending four Cougar batters packing. David Mejia (Pawtucket, RI) came in to finish the game, pitching one scoreless inning and striking out two batters.

The Knights struck the fatal blow when in the fourth inning the scored a walloping 16 runs. The scoring was sparked by a 3 run bomb by Austin Davis the flew over the right center fence for his first homer of the season. Asa Nyblom (Wakefield, RI) also recorded a first as he slapped his first triple of the season to left field. At the end, a lack of pitchers showed for the Cougars as walks, hit batters and wild pitches accounted for several CCRI runs scored.

CCRI did indeed enjoy their time at the plate though, recording 17 hits as a team. Leading the hitting brigade for the Knights was Joey Barter batting 3-4 with three RBI and three runs scored. Austin Davis enjoyed another prolific day at the plate as he went 3-4 with game high five RBI, one stolen base and one run scored. Zach Odsen went 3-5 with two RBI and two runs scored. Exavier Santiago notched two hits including a double as he went 2-4 with three RBI and three runs scored. Steve Cochrane (Guilford, CT) batted 2-3 with one RBI and a run scored. Rounding off the hitting with one hit apiece was Asa Nyblom, Kyle McCann (Coventry, RI), Owen Wosleger (East Hampton, CT) and Nick D'Ambra (Coventry, RI). The CCRI bats propelled the Knights to a 25-1 win over the Cougars.
