Warwick, R.I. – March 26, 2018: The CCRI Baseball team hosted the Herons of Great Bay for a Saturday doubleheader. A pitcher's duel in game one saw both hurlers allow just one hit with Great Bay scoring the lone run and winning 1-0. Game two was a 180 in contrast as the Knights would score 15 runs in a 15-2 victory. The split moves the Knights to a 6-7 record on the season.

CCRI – 0 Great Bay – 1 (7 Innings)

Game one saw stellar performances from both pitchers. Christian Dow got the start for Great Bay in which he threw seven innings, allowing just one hit and one walk while tallying six strikeouts. Pitching with similar dominance for the Knights was Zach Odsen (Providence, RI). Odsen went seven innings with seven strikeouts, just one walk and allowing a run off a fielder's choice.

That Great Bay run came in the top of the first when, with men on the corners, the CCRI infield turned a 5-4-3 double play, allowing the runner on third to come home. CCRI's lone hit came from Exavier Santiago (Bridgeport, CT) who launched a double to right field in the bottom of the third. There wouldn't be another hit for either team as the pitcher's had their way with the batters. The game ended with Great Bay on top 1-0.

CCRI – 15 Great Bay – 2 (5 Innings)

Game two had a very different vibe than that of game one. Things sparked up when CCRI batted around the order in the bottom of the first, scoring nine runs! In total, the Knights enjoyed 14 at bats in the first inning. Steve Cochrane (Guilford, CT) knocked in two runs off a double to right field. Also recoding hits in the inning were Owen Wosleger (East Hampton, CT), Zach Odsen (Providence, RI) and Asa Nyblom (Wakefield, RI) who all chipped in singles.

Also contributing to the scoring was the patience of the CCRI batters, leading to walks. In total, Great Bay pitchers walked nine batters in four innings of work. Pitching for the Knights was Max Marcotte (Coventry, RI). Marcotte threw five innings allowing two runs off of just three hits while tallying 10 strikeouts. The hard-working Knights' defense were able to enjoy several 1,2,3 innings, keeping Great Bay bats dormant for almost the entirety of the contest.

On the offensive side, a key moment for CCRI was in the bottom of the second, with a man on first. Asa Nyblom connected on a hanging pitch, launching a dinger to straight away center field. The homer was Nyblom's first of the year and gave the Knights a 11-0 lead. CCRI would score four more runs while Great Bay would score two consolation runs.

The Knights' offense was led by Asa Nyblom, going 2-2 with four RBI and two runs scored. Steve Cochrane also knocked in four RBI as he went 2-4 with a double, adding a run scored. Michael Castillo (Cranston, RI) was 2-3 with a double, three RBI and one run scored in game two. Jarrad Grossguth (Coventry, RI) and Zach Odsen both chopped doubles into play. Odsen batted 2-4 with one RBI and two runs scored whilst Grossguth was 1-2 with a run scored.

The ability to bounce back from a tough loss in game one ensured that the Knights would be victorious in game two. The final score in five innings was CCRI 15, Great Bay 2.

UP NEXT: The CCRI Baseball team will host Northern Essex on Monday March 26 for a 3:30 game.
