Warwick, R.I. – January 16, 2018: The CCRI Lady Knights basketball team hosted the cougars of Genesee Community College from Batavia, NY for their first game of the 2018 CCRI Invitational. The Lady Knights defeated the Cougars 70-45. With the victory CCRI improves to 11-7 overall.

This was a revenge game for the Lady Knights who had lost to the Cougars 74-61 back on December 9th in Batavia, NY. CCRI was seeking a different outcome in the friendly confines of the Vincent A. Cullen Fieldhouse. This game did not start the way the Lady Knights would have hoped as the Cougars banked-in a 3-pointer to start the game and quickly jumped out to a 7-0 lead before the Lady Knights knew what hit them. With the score 9-2 Genesee D'Asia Allen (Providence, RI) went to WORK! Allen put the Lady Knights on her shoulders a she drained five consecutive 3-pointers to give CCRI a 17-12 lead followed by two baskets form Co-Captain Tiondra Hands (Boynton, Beach, FL) who made two baskets to give the Lady Knights a comfortable 21-12 lead going into the first quarter break. Allen added another 3-pointer in the second quarter to give her six threes for the first half while Auvi Lindo (Pembroke Pines, FL) added four points as CCRI would extend its lead to 15 points 35-20 by the halftime break.

In the third quarter the Lady Knights blew the game open outscoring Genesee 23-11 to take a 51-38 lead into the fourth quarter. CCRI never looked back as they went on to win by the final score of 70-45.
