Warwick, R.I. – January 11, 2018: The CCRI Knights men's basketball team traveled to the Bronx, NY to play the Caimans of Hostos Community College for a game Wednesday evening. The Knights defeated the Caimans 89-81. With the victory the Knights improve to 6-9 on the season.

The Knights were led by freshman guard Josh Williams (Atlanta, GA) while employing their four guard system CCRI led from the opening tip until the final buzzer. The Knights played a strong first half and led 47-35 at the break. In the second half the Caimans began to battle back to close the lead to six points with the score 82-76 with just two minutes remaining. The Knights answered with a press break lay-up from Cole Ferguson (West Greenwich, RI) to go up eight points and Hostos got no closer as CCRI closed out the game to a final score of 89-81.

Leading the way was Josh Williams charting a double-double with a game-high 23 points and 10 assists and five rebounds and sharpshooter Danny Grzych (Providence, RI) scored 15 points on five 3-pointers. Grzych has climbed the 3-point rankings in the Division II NJCAA being ranked No. 6 in 3pt% shooting 53.8%, No. 10 in 3ptrs/gm with 3.3 and No. 13 in total 3ptrs with 49. Also helping the Knights was freshman JC Santos (East Providence, RI) who scored 11 points with two assist and two steals and Kevin Paygai (West Warwick, RI) scored 10 points with three assist and a steal in his first game back for the Knights since last season. The Knight also got excellent production of 21 points, 19 rebounds and two blocked shots from their three headed monster at center with the combination of Co-Captain Chris Garcia (Bronx, NY), Co-Captain Igor Almeida (Praia, Cape Verde) and Oscar Iteji (Schenectady, NY).

Head Coach Rick Harris commented after the big victory: "I was very pleased with this road win. It is always nice to win on the road. Road victories are hard to come by and especially in New York City. We have to just get back to practice and try to get better for our next game Saturday versus the always strong Nassau Community College squad"

The next games for the Knights will be this weekend as part of the 2018 CCRI Invitational. On Saturday the Knights will face Nassau Community College from Garden City, NY at 7pm and Sunday they will face Genesee Community College from Batavia, NY at 1pm.
