Warwick, R.I. – November 21, 2016: The CCRI Lady Knights basketball team traveled to Monroe College in New Rochelle, NY to play three games in the Monroe College Invitational Friday, Saturday and Sunday. In their first game of the Invitational CCRI faced the Division I Mustangs of Monroe College. The Lady Knights lost 90-38. With the loss CCRI falls to 3-3 on the season.
The Lady Knights were outsized and overmatched a bit in this contest but fought hard to keep the game as close as they could. Monroe jumped out to a 28-8 lead in the first quarter and extended that lead to 48-16 by halftime. Monroe kept cruising in the second half to win buy the final count of 90-38.
Leading the way for the Lady Knights was Ashley VanBemmelen (North Providence, RI) with 10 points including two 3-pointers with four rebounds, a steal and an assist and D’Asia Allen (Providence, RI) had nine points and seven rebounds. Co-Captain Mackenzie Brayman (North Stonington, CT) had seven points with two three pointers, three rebounds and two assists and Co-Captain Kelsey Hernandez (New Britain, CT) added six points, twos teals and an assist. Shania Johnson of Monroe led all scorers with 24 points with eight steals.
The Lady Knights will face the Bears of Harcum College on Saturday on the Monroe Invite.
