Warwick, R.I. – November 7, 2016: The CCRI Lady Knights basketball team traveled to Central Maine Community College (CMCC) in Auburn, ME for a game against the Mustangs of CMCC. CCRI lost to CMCC 98-67. With the loss the Lady Knights fall to 1-1 on the season.
The Lady Knights knew they were going to be in a tough battle with Central Maine having many players listed over six feet tall. The Lady Knights kept it close early on going into the first quarter break trailing by eight points with the score 25-17 CMCC. CCRI got a couple points back I the second quarter as they outscored the Mustangs 16-14 but were still trailing 33-49 at halftime. In the third quarter CMCC regained control outscoring CCRI 32-20to take a commanding 71-53 lead and never looked back as they went on to win by the final score of 98-67.
Leading the way for the Lady Knights was Co-Captain Kelsey Hernandez (New Britain, CT) with 18 points, including three 3-pointers with three assists and D’Asia Allen (Providence, RI) came off the bench to score 14 points including four 3-pointers. Also helping CCRI was Tiondra Hands (Delray Beach, FL) with 11 points, including two 3-pointers, Ashley VanBemmelen (North Providence, RI) scored 12 points on four 3-pointers with five rebounds and three steals and Co-Captain Mackenzie Brayman (North Stonington, CT) added eight points, three rebounds and two assists.
The next game for the Lady Knights will be Tuesday when they host the Bulldogs of Bunker Hill Community College from Charlestown, MA for a game starting at 7:00pm.
