Warwick, R.I. – May 18, 2017: The CCRI Knights golf team traveled to Chicopee Country club in Chicopee, MA to compete in the 2017 Region XXI Tournament. After the first day of competition the Knights have a commanding 31-stroke lead.
The Knights were led by Tri-Captain Matt O’Brien (Portsmouth, RI) who shot the low score of the day with an impressive 78 followed in third place overall by freshman Tyler Boisclair (West Warwick, RI) who shot an 81. The Knights were also helped by Tri-Captain Sam Caron (Cumberland, RI) who shot an 84 and freshman Aaron Bento (Seekonk, MA) had an 87 to give the Knights a team score of 330. Also competing for CCRI was Tri-Captain Meghan Rocheleau (Warwick, RI) who shot a 102 but her score was not used towards the team total.
The second place team after day 1 was Holyoke Community College who shot a team score of 361 followed by Springfield Technical Community College with a 365 and Bristol Community College carded a team score of 383 to round out the team scoring. Mass Bay Community College had one golfer and Massasoit Community College had two golfers but not full teams.
Individually the low scorers for the day were Matt O’Brien from CCRI at 78, Matt Murphy from Bristol with a 79, Tyler Boisclair of CCRI with an 81 and Nick Barber of Mass Bay had an 82.
The teams will conclude the Region XXI Tournament Thursday at 9:00am at Chicopee Country Club in Chicopee, MA. The Knights will be looking to secure their fifth consecutive Region XXI Title.
