Warwick, R.I. – June 9, 2017: The CCRI Knights golf team continued play in the Division III Golf National Championship at Chautauqua Golf Club in Chautauqua, NY. In the third round the Knights shot their best round so far at the nationals with a 339 which was 11 strokes better than their opening round of 350. The 339 gave CCRI a three day total of 1,054 which still has them in 13th place overall. The overall team leader is still Georgia Military College who shot a third day 309 to give them a three day total of 916.
Every Knights golfer shot their best rounds at the National Championship during round three at Chautauqua! The Knights were led by Tri-Captain Matt O’Brien (Portsmouth, RI) who shot an impressive 79 to give him a three day total of 250 moving him up ten places in the individual standings making him tied for 53rd individually. Also shooting well for the Knights was freshman Tyler Boisclair (West Warwick, RI) who shot an 85 to give him a three day total of 258. Freshman Aaron Bento (Seekonk, MA) also had a low round for himself with an 86 to give him a three day total of 266. Tri-Captain Sam Caron (Cumberland, RI) shot an 89 to give him a three day total of 280. Rounding out the CCRI competitors at the Nationals was Tri-Captain Meghan Rocheleau (Warwick, RI) who shot her best round by eight strokes with a 110 in the third round to give her a three day total of 347 but her score was not used towards the team total. The Knights team is only 13 strokes out of 12th place after trailing 12th place by 30 strokes after two rounds so they are in striking distance of the County College of Morris with a good final round on Friday.
The individual leader of the Nationals is defending champion Dante Migliore of Mohawk Valley Community College who shot a very impressive low score of the day with a 69 to give him a three day total of 210 which is six under par. Migliore is followed by Mitchell Steiner of Southwest Wisconsin Technical College who shot a 75 to give him a three day total of 215 which is one under par.
The Knights teed off from the 10th hole in the final round in the first pairings starting at 9:00am with Tri-Captain Meghan Rocheleau and ending at 9:32 with Tri-Captain Matt O’Brien at 9:32am. The Knights look to have another impressive round as they did on Thursday with the hopes of improving in the team standings.
