Warwick, R.I. – January 30, 2017: The CCRI Lady Knights Basketball team hosted the Colts of Orange County Community College from Middletown, NY for a game Saturday afternoon. CCRI lost to the Colts 64-50. With the loss the Lady Knights fall to 11-13 on the season.

The Lady Knights had beaten the Colts earlier in the season 80-74 in Middletown, NY so the Colts were out to exact revenge upon CCRI on the Lady Knights’ home court. The Lady Knights did not shoot well in this game and that turned out to be their downfall. CCRI shot 24% from the floor and 22% from the 3-point arc where they do a great deal of their damage allowed the Colts to lead for the get go. After one quarter the Lady Knights trailed 17-15. The Lady Knights did make three 3-pointer is the quarter and got four points from Tri-Captain Mackenzie Brayman (North Stonington, CT) but after that CCRI was ice cold from the field. The Lady Knights were outscored 14-11 in the second quarter while getting four points from Tri-Captain Kelsey Hernandez (New Britain, CT) but Orange County held a 31-26 lead at the halftime break. In the second half it was pretty much the same. CCRI was playing hard but the shots just would not fall for them as Orange extended the lead to 48-38 with a quarter remaining. CCRI scored the first couple baskets of the fourth quarter before the Colts went on another run to close out the game and win by the final count of 64-50.

Leading the way for the Lady Knights was Tri-Captain Kelsey Hernandez charted her second Double-double of the year and was one rebound from recording her third Triple-double of the year scoring a team-high 14 points with 10 assists while grabbing nine rebounds with two steals. Hernandez is ranked No. 3 in the nation (NJCAA DII) in total Assists with 113 and No. 20 by the NJCAA in Assist per game with 4.7. Helping Hernandez was D’Asia Allen (Providence, RI) scoring 13 points with three 3-pointers with seven rebounds three assists and a steal. Tiondra Hands (Delray Beach, FL) also played well scoring 11 points with two 3-pointers with five rebounds, two assist and two steals. Hands is also having an excellent freshman campaign herself leading the nation (NJCAA DII) in Total Assists with 125 and is ranked No. 6 in Assists per game with 5.2 per contest.
