Both teams came out of the gate hard and scoring at will on each other with neither team gaining a clear advantage with the score 17-16 CCRI late in the first quarter. UCAP closed the first scoring the final eight points to take a 25-17 lead after one quarter. In the second quarter UCAP extended their lead as they remained shooting well led by their leading scorer Tatyana LaFrance- Boyce who came into the game averaging 32.5 ppg, LaFrance-Boyce scored 12 of the Pointers’ 22 second quarter points to give them a comfortable 46-27 lead going into half.
In the second half Co-Captain Kelsey Hernandez (New Britain, CT) had bay far her best quarter of her young collegiate career as she single handedly kept CCRI alive in this game. Hernandez was on a mission scoring 18 of the Lady Knights 25 third quarter points including scoring 14 in a row for CCRI which included two 3-pointers. Only thing going wrong for CCRI was they could not stop forward Taleeha Green who scored 12 of her 25 points in the third quarter to try and keep up with Kelsey. However, Hernandez’s effort helped cut the UCAP lead to 13 points with the score 65-53 by the end of the third. Once again the Lady Knights outscored UCAP in the final quarter 21-16 led by seven from Hernandez and six points from both Co-Captain Mackenzie Brayman (North Stonington, CT) and D’Asia Allen (Providence, RI) who both sank two 3-pointers apiece. CCRI’s comeback effort was valiant but not enough to get them the victory as they fell by the final count of 81-73.
