Warwick, R.I. – October 19, 2015: The CCRI Lady Knights volleyball team traveled to Montgomery College in Rockville, MD to play in a tri-match versus Montgomery College and Delaware Technical Community College. The Lady Knights split the matches falling to Montgomery 0-2 then defeating Delaware Tech 2-0. With the split the Lady Knights are now 14-7 on the season.
Head Coach Sam Amaral commented “This game was tough to watch. As a coach you know the capabilities of your team, it is frustrating when they get on the court and they don't play to their potential. I know my girls could have beaten this team.” The Lady Knights struggled on the service line and with putting the ball away on good hits. They may have been sluggish from the nine hour trip. However the second game was a lot better. The Lady Knights started to wake up and communicate more effectively. Unfortunately, CCRI lost this game due to unforced errors. There were some highlights to this game including Amanda LaCroix (East Freetown, MA) who finished with five kills and six digs. LaCroix was helped by Alexis Mirabile (Cranston, RI) who had two kills. Sophomore Captain Emily Taylor (South Kingstown, RI) finished with eight assists and an ace. Rounding out the match for CCRI was Ormarie Colon (Providence, RI) and Sophia Mazzocca (Lakeville, MA) also had two kills apiece.
Coach Amaral commented “This was a much better match! The girls were awake and ready to regain their form. The girls came out fight in this match. They were talking and fighting as they should be, the thing I love about this game is that the girls did play well but they were not playing as good as they can be. This gives me hope about districts and nationals for the Lady Knights.” Freshman Carol Rodriguez (Pawtucket, RI) had one kill, one block and one dig for this match. Rodriguez came out with something to prove on the court. “It was fun to see” added Coach Amaral. Co-Captain Emily Taylor finished with nine assist, two digs, and an ace. Co-Captain Hailey Smith (Cumberland, RI) finished with a kill, two blocks and two digs while Alexis Mirabile finished the game with two kills. Coach Amaral added “in set one this kid was on fire!”

This match will be Sophomore Day for the five Lady Knights’ sophomores who will be playing their final home match at CCRI, the sophomores are: Co-Captain Emily Taylor, Co-Captain Kaleigh Clausen (Wakefield, RI), Victoria Parente (Johnston, RI), April Von (Providence, RI) and Ormarie Colon (Providence, RI).
