Warwick, R.I. – February 9, 2016: The CCRI Lady Knights basketball team traveled to New Rochelle, NY on Sunday to face the Mustangs of Monroe College. The Lady Knights lost to the Mustangs 65-44. With the loss the Lady Knights drop to 13-14 on the season.
The Lady Knights had beaten the Mustangs back in November in Warwick by three points 70-67 and they knew this would be a tougher contest in New York. CCRI got behind early in the game and never really got back into the game. The Lady Knights trailed 24-11 after the first quarter and Monroe extended that lead to 21 points by halftime leading 46-25. The Lady Knights did cut into the lead in the third quarter out scoring Monroe 13-6 making the score 52-38 going into the fourth quarter but that is a close as they would get as Monroe outscored CCRI 13-6 in the final frame to win by the final count of 65-44.
Leading the way for the Lady Knights was Kennethah Harden (Roosevelt, NY) with her 20th double-double scoring a team high 19 points with 12 rebounds and three steals. Co-Captain Lyric Artis (Albany, NY) was the only other Lady Knight to score in double figures with 10 points, two steals and two rebounds while Ashley Correa (Providence, RI) added seven points, three rebounds, two assists and a steal. Rounding out the CCRI statistics were Co-Captain Haley Beausoleil (Plainfield, CT) and Mackenzie Brayman (North Stonington, CT) who combined for 15 rebounds, nine assists, two steals and eight points.
The next game for the Lady Knights will be Tuesday at 5:00pm when they host the Lions of Gateway Community College from New Haven CT for a Region XXI non-league game.
