Warwick, R.I. – April 15, 2015: The CCRI Knights Golf Team traveled to New England Country Club in Uxbridge, MA home course of Dean College to compete in their first match of the season. The Knights dominated their opponents in their first match posting a team score of 323 followed by the hosting Bulldogs of Dean College at 372 and the Warriors of Massasoit Community College at 390 while Mass Bay and Holyoke had incomplete teams with only three players each.
Individually the Knights players were led by Co-Captain Steven Letterle (Cranston, RI) with an impressive low score of 77 followed by freshman Alex Greenwood (Cranston, RI) who posted an 80. The next two Knights to finish were freshman Josh Macera (Cranston, RI) shooting an 82 and Co-Captain Matt Burke (Wakefield, RI) shot an 84 making the team total 323. Also playing very good rounds but whose scores were not used in the team total included: Mike Higgins (Warwick, RI) with an 89, Ryan Neilan (Barrington, RI) with a 92 and Dan Hayes (Pawtucket, RI) rounded out the CCRI golfers with a 94. This is a very promising start for the Knights who look to improve their scores when they play again Thursday.
The next match for the Knights is this Thursday the 16th when they to Chicopee Country Club in Chicopee, MA for a match at Holyoke Community College’s home course at 12noon.
The Community College of Rhode Island, New England’s largest comprehensive community college, enrolls nearly 18,000 students in credit courses and thousands more in non-credit and job training classes. Its athletic program boasts 12 varsity programs and an academic support program for all student-athletes.
