Lady Knights overpower Massasoit CC 9-0!

The CCRI Lady Knights’ women’s soccer team hosted the Warriors of Massasoit Community College from Brockton, MA for a Region XXI non-conference match on Wednesday. The Lady Knights defeated the Warriors 9-0.   With the victory the Lady Knights improve to 7-6-1 overall and a perfect 5-0 in Region XXI play.
 
The Lady Knights got off to a fast start on Wednesday versus the Warriors scoring three quick goals in the first 12 minutes of the game.  Freshman forward Selena Canales (Cranston, RI) scored on a penalty kick giving the Lady Knights a quick 1-0 lead.  Just two minutes later freshman midfielder Stepheny Perez (Providence, RI) scored an unassisted goal.  A minute later sophomore defender Taylor Lopes (Cumberland, RI) scored on a pass from Talia Geremia (Warwick, RI) giving CCRI a 3-0 advantage. Later on in the 29th minute freshman midfielder Carla Porras (Narragansett, RI) scored off of a corner kick delivered by Perez making the score 4-0 at the half.
 
After totally dominating the first half of play, CCRI continued their dominance throughout the second half scoring five more times.  Goal scorers on the day were led by: Stepheny Perez who charted a hat trick with three goals on the day, Selena Canales and Carla Porras each scoring two goals apiece, and Taylor Lopes and Talia Geremia chipping in with one goal each giving the Lady Knights the 9-0 victory.  The Lady Knights still remain unbeaten in Region XXI play with a record of 5-0.

CCRI’s next match will be at home this Sunday against Bryant and Stratton College from Syracuse, NY at 11:00am.
