The Knights were able to hold off a late Muscatine CC (IA) surge Sunday morning to hang on for an 8-6 win. With the win, the Knights will return home with a winning record of 4-3, notching wins over Muscatine CC, Schenectady CC (2), and Lincoln CC.
The Knights’ offense established a lead early in the game, with Jake Tillman (Scituate, RI) pacing CCRI with three hits and three RBI. Zach Wood (Griswold, CT) added some insurance for the Knights with a towering 400-foot homerun that easily cleared the left field fence in the bottom of the seventh inning to stretch the CCRI lead.
Sophomore Ryan O’Dell (Lincoln, RI) was dominant in his first start of the season on the mound, working seven innings, while striking out eight and allowing just two runs en route to picking up his first win of the season.
Kory Lawrence (Woonsocket, RI) struggled in his two innings of relief, surrendering four runs on five hits, but battled through to earn his first save of the season.
The team now returns for its home opener and a six game series beginning Friday, as they entertain the Ontario International Baseball Academy from Toronto, Canada. The Knights will play a single game on Friday beginning at 3:30 p.m., followed by noontime doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday, and a single game on Monday at 3:30 p.m. to close out the series.
