Allen wins but Knights nipped by NAPS 27-28
The CCRI men’s cross country team traveled to Newport, RI to compete in a dual cross country meet with the Naval Academy Preparatory School. The Knights’ team lost by a single point to the Rams of Navy Prep 27 to 28 (lowest score is best).
The Knights’ top runner Bobby Allen (Cranston, RI) won the race in a time of 16 minutes 10 seconds with teammate Ben Marino (Warwick, RI) finishing in third place across the 5k course in a time of 18:17. However as a team Navy Prep was able to edge the Knights 27-28 by one point. Also finishing well for the Knights was Cole Maguire (Foster, RI) finishing 6th in a time of 19:33 he was followed by Isaiah Hector (Warwick, RI) finishing 8th in 19:55 and Chris Mann (West Warwick, RI) rounded out the Knights’ runners finishing 10th in 20:18. Naps had their top five runners finish second, fourth, fifth, seventh and ninth winning by a single point over the Knights.
Head Coach Gregg Cornell commented dafter the meet “Our men ran strong but came up just a little short of victory against a very evenly matched Navy squad.”
The Knights’ next meet will be this Friday October 14th when they travel to Franklin Park in Boston, MA to compete in the Emmanuel Saints Invitational.
