CCRI track does well at Corsair Classic!
The CCRI Knights and Lady Knights track teams traveled to North Dartmouth, MA to compete in the UMass-Dartmouth Corsair Classic. The Knights men finished 10th out of 14 teams with 22 points, the winning team was the host UMass-Dartmouth with 142.50 points. The Lady Knights were 11th out of 11 with four points with the winning team being Roger Williams with 139.83 points.
Both Lady Knights’ javelin throwers throw well led by Cassandra Gustafson (Pawtucket, RI) who improved greatly on her NJCAA qualifying throw from two weeks ago. Gustafson’s 32.67m toss on Saturday puts her on top of the Division III NJCAA performance list and was good for fifth place at the Corsair Invitational to earn her all four points the Lady Knights received for the meet. Jessica Randall (Warwick, RI) in her first meet of the year qualifies for the Nationals with a 10th place 25.66m toss.
Sprinter Anthony Cox (Brooklyn, NY) is back in great form qualifying for the championship in his first race of the season placing second with a time of 11.18 seconds in the 100m. Cox was only out run by 2010 CCRI All-American sprinter Blest Norris by .18 seconds who now runs for RIC. Cox came back to place 5th in the 200m dash with a good early season time of 23.37 seconds. Robert Allen (Cranston, RI) also had a fine day at the Corsair Classic winning in the 1,500m run in a school record NJCAA Division III qualifying time of 4 minutes 3.82 seconds, his second record of the outdoor season. Allen also qualified for the nationals in the 800m run with a 13th place time of 2:03.29.
Other Knights that competed are as follows: Marciano Brunette (Narragansett, RI) placed 29th in the 800m with a time of 2:10.20. He also placed 13th in the long jump with a leap of 5.52m. Brunette also placed 30th in the 200m dash in a time of 25.68 seconds. Ephraim Soe (Providence, RI) improved greatly from his first meet placing 20th in the 100m dash in a season best time of 11.80.
