The CCRI golf team enters the 2015 season as defending Region XXI champions. The Knights have two returning players, Steven Letterle (Cranston, RI) and Matt Burke (Wakefield, RI). Burke is returning to the team after having taken one season off. Letterle, earned All-Region XXI honors as the medalist at the 2014 Region championship after shooting a 79 and 77 to total 156 and lead the Knights to the Region title. He went on to finish 25th overall at the NJCAA Division III National Tournament. The team finished in 11th place at Nationals.

Joining the team this year are a talented group of freshman led by Second Team All-Stater Josh Macera (Cranston, RI) and All-Central Division Alex Greenwood (Cranston, RI) both athletes are from Cranston West High School. They will be joined by Mike Higgins (Warwick, RI), Dan Hayes (Pawtucket, RI) and Ryan Neilan (Barrington, RI).

The team is working towards earning an invitation, once again, to this year’s regional and national tournaments.

2014 Golf Season Summary

The 2014 team was led by first year head coach, Jim Stringfellow, and assistant  and longtime CCRI athletic department member, Ron Fielder. The team headed into the season with high expectations and the goal of winning another Region XXI championship.

Sophomore captains Gina Bartolotta (Wakefield, RI) and Zach Sullivan(Cumberland, RI) had solid efforts in each tournament and combined with the talent of fellow sophomore Chris Lussier (Cranston, RI) and talented freshman Steven Letterle (Cranston, RI), the team took home another Region XXI championship. This was the third consecutive year for the golf team to win the Region.

The Regional win set up the Knights to play at the NJCAA Division III National Tournament held at the Chautauqua Golf Club in Chautauqua, New York. Letterle shot a combined 316 total and finished 25th overall. Bartolotta finished her CCRI athletic career by shooting a 355 and finishing 72nd in the tournament. As a team, the Knights finished with a solid 11th at the Nationals.
