Paragraph Structure and Topic Sentences

This workshop describes topic sentences, details, paragraph organization,
and idea connections. The participants will get practice with topic sentences
and details by doing online exercises.
Essay Structure and Thesis Statements
Friday, September 25, 2-2:50 p.m.: Knight Campus (Warwick), Room 6580
This workshop looks at essays, thesis statements, introductions, conclusions,
and body paragraphs. Handouts and online exercises will include examples
of good and bad thesis statements.
Practicing Grammar with Online Quizzes
Friday, October 2, 2-2:50 p.m., Knight Campus (Warwick), Room 6580
The participants in this workshop will review fragments, run-ons, punctuation,
pronouns, and other problem areas by seeing PowerPoint presentations and
by getting practice with online quizzes.
2009 Changes in the MLA System
Friday, October 9, 2-2:50 p.m., Knight Campus (Warwick), Room 6580
This workshop begins with a short PowerPoint presentation that describes the MLA system's 2009 changes. Then workshop participants will look at handouts, online information, and explanation of in-text citations and Works Cited pages. Finally, methods of fixing MLA system errors will be discussed while looking at an example of a bad paragraph.

This workshop looks at commas, semi-colons, colons, run-ons, and other areas.
Punctuation handouts, online presentations, and practice with online quizzes
are important parts of this workshop.
Creative Revision Techniques
Friday, October 23, 2-2:50 p.m., Knight Campus (Warwick), Room 6580
A PowerPoint presentation will describe revision methods and ways of soliciting
editorial comments. The participants will look at some online resources
and will practice some revision techniques.
Responding to Literature with the MLA System
Friday, October 30, 2-2:50 p.m., Knight Campus (Warwick), Room 6580
This workshop focuses on websites, the MLA system, suggestions on how to
respond to literature, and analytical questions about setting, plot, characters,
point of view, theme, symbols, and other areas. The participants will revise
bad examples of a summary and an interpretation of a short poem.
Research Papers: The MLA System

This workshop includes handouts, online information, and explanation of
in-text citations and Works Cited pages. Using the MLA system with 2009 updates, participants
will revise a bad example of a paragraph.
