How do I get started?


Whether you are novice/beginner, somewhat advanced or proficient, you can take courses that will prepare you for success in the technology fields. The Community College offers several courses to prepare you to be successful in any technology program of study! Click on each of the course listed below to understand how you can get started:

  • "Bridges to Technology" is a curriculum (a number of different courses at three different levels), specifically designed to prepare students for technology programs of study or, if ready, get students started in these programs! Courses such as Technology Readiness, Intro to Engineering and Technology, Building Science Skills (along with the appropriate Math and English courses for you) will lead you to a lucrative career in these fields!
  • Technology Readiness (COMI 8022) will provide you with tech basics and build your confidence.  This one-credit course introduces the student to techniques needed to engage in a computer-based learning experience such as basic use of Windows and other essential desktop functions, as well as searching the internet and using e-mail and internet software.   • Intro to Engineering and Technology (ENGR 1020) presents a hands-on introduction to the fields of engineering and technology. The course will discuss issues of career development and expose students to essential skills including use of Microsoft Word and Excel, Internet use and Internet Research, and both manual and computer graphing. The course's main focus is on problem solving individually and as a group and culminates in a group engineering project such as constructing a bridge or robot.   • Building Science Skills is for the student with rusty science skills or who never had the basic lab science courses in high school. This is a grant-funded free non-credit class that is offered for 3 hours a week for a fifteen-week semester. The class offers comprehensive skill building for students who wish to enroll in basic science and/or technology courses at CCRI.   • Math courses are available at all levels for those who need basic math on up to other math courses. There are Math Labs available where you can work at your own pace or, Lecture courses where you will be taught in a group setting.
  • English courses are also available at all levels, from ESL to Basic English to Composition I as well as others!
