AMERICAN CHEMICAL SOCIETY

The CCRI American Chemical Society affiliate organization is a group whose purpose is to broaden the scope of the school experience for chemistry students. The club regularly participates in extra-curricular activities such as tours of other schools, and various chemical companies offering possible job opportunities. Pertinent seminars and lectures are also attended. Social functions are a regular part of the agenda. These functions include a Christmas party and a May picnic.

ARTFUL AFTERNOON CLUB

The Artful Afternoon Club offers students a chance to share and expand CCRI's Student Artistic Community. It is also a collaborative cultural occasional celebration of music, lyrical, visual, kinetic and dramatic. Poetry slams…readings…improvisations…songs…poems…dramatic performances…dance performance…jam potential including all instruments: classical, jazz, rock, blues, folk, hip-hop, etc…two and three dimensional art creation and exhibition.

ASIAN CLUB

The Asian Club is made up of Cambodians, Laotians, Hmong, and Vietnamese students. The main mission of the Asian Club is to maintain a sense of commitment to college study retention. It also plans social and cultural activities, which promote cultural pride and augment retention efforts among Southeast Asian students at CCRI. Special events have included; International Festival Cultural Show, involvement in sponsoring legislators for campus seminars, and participation in the International Student Club's Thanksgiving celebration. Trips also have been planned to the Boston Museum of Science, Plymouth Plantation, and to the New England Aquarium.

ASSOCIATION FOR WOMEN IN TECHNOLOGY

The Women in Technology Club was founded to provide a communal organization for females enrolled in CCRI’s technology courses. These include ChemTech, Engineering, CISCO, and Computer Studies. The club provides its members with opportunities for peer support, mentoring networking with individuals from CCRI’s faculty, student body, and with former graduates of technology courses. Members learn about career opportunities in the technology fields through guest speakers, site visits and information provided by college faculty and staff. By offering peer support and linkages to resources, student members increase their ability to stay with their courses of study through graduation. The club offers its members opportunities to socialize with their peers in meetings as well as in special social events. The club meets on the Warwick campus.

BIBLE STUDY CLUB

The Bible Study Club meets twice a week to study the Bible together, both the Old and New Testaments, and to support and encourage each other in our faith. The club welcomes all interested people to come and be part of the group. We read with a view to the meaning and personal application of what the text says. Bibles are provided by the club. Study is followed by a time of prayer for those who desire it. Meeting times: Tuesdays at 11:00-12:00 and Thursdays at 12:00-1:00. CANOE CLUB

The Canoe Club's objective is to allow CCRI students the opportunities of canoeing and other wilderness environmental, and community interest projects according to their individual skill levels. Also, to arrange for the availability and use of equipment by all members are according to the bylaws and to offer opportunities to inexperienced members to develop their skill. CHAMBER ENSEMBLE CLUB

The Chamber Ensemble is CCRI’s band/orchestra performing group. We meet twice a week to practice for performances during the semester. The group presents a formal public concert twice a year, in December and April/May, and frequently performs for other college functions. All band/orchestra instrumentalists who read music are invited to participate. Chamber Ensemble is a good way to keep up or improve your skills on your instrument and to enjoy the benefits of playing in an ensemble. A steady commitment is required. Meeting times: Mondays and Wednesdays from 1:00-2:15 in the Band Room (0540) in Warwick.

CHAMBER SINGERS

For those who enjoy part-singing in a small group, this is an interesting close-knit ensemble club. Also a one-credit music course, the Chamber Singers ensemble offers an opportunity to explore anything from a cappella Renaissance music to 20th century styles. Performances include fall concerts on campus and in the community, a spring choral festival, and an annual spring concert. Auditions for placement within the group are held at the first two rehearsals each semester. We rehearse weekly on Tuesdays 12-12:50pm and Thursdays, 11:00am to 12:50pm in Room 0562.

CHORUS

A marvelous opportunity for those who enjoy singing and having fun while learning vocal technique by rehearsing varied and interesting styles of choral music. A one-credit course, the Chorus meets Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:30 to 3:45pm. Chorus club meetings are held on Mondays from 2:30 to 3:00pm. An audition for placement for each section (soprano, alto, tenor, and bass) is held during the first meeting of each semester.

DANCE CLUB

The CCRI Dance Club is an organization formed to broaden the knowledge and experience of its members and adjunct members. Also, to foster interest in dance and the associated performing arts for the artist fulfillment, pleasure and benefit of the community and school. The CCRI Dance Club sponsors educational and special activities including lessons, clinics, workshops, demonstration and performances both on and off campus. Participation in A.C.D.F.A. festivals enables students to compete intercollegiate with artists from both within and outside of the college community.

DELTA EPSILON CHI - A College Division of DECA

Delta Epsilon Chi (DECA) has three chapters operating out of the Knight, Flanagan, and Liston campuses. Delta Epsilon Chi members are enrolled in Management, Marketing, Entrepreneurship and other business-oriented programs. This co-curricular organization has over 180,000 members internationally. The goals of Delta Epsilon Chi are to prepare its members for their future career goals by focusing on leadership, development, community service activities and competition. Annually, members travel to an international conference to compete in various career areas to win awards, scholarships, prizes and obtain job opportunities. DENTAL HYGIENE

The purpose of the organization is to enable students to keep abreast of the current trends and issues in the profession of dental hygiene. Attendance and participation in meetings and affiliation with the Rhode Island Dental Hygienists' Association and the American Dental Hygienists' Association are stressed. Students participate in special events held during Children's Dental Health Month in February, which heightens community awareness of oral health. The members participate in a variety of community service projects throughout the year including preparing and distributing oral health kits to the needy, Autism walk-a-thon and Oral Health presentations at local community health centers. Annual attendance to regional conferences, such as the Yankee Dental Congress in Boston, is planned.

The Engineering Student Association (ESA) is a club made up of students majoring in engineering and engineering technology. The purpose of the club is to better prepare students for what lies ahead after graduation and to enhance their knowledge in all fields of engineering. In addition to students exchanging and sharing knowledge of classes, careers, jobs, etc. during meetings, the club also hosts guest speakers and sponsors field trips as well. ESA also holds an annual cookout/picnic each year during the summer, and ski trip during the winter break. The club is open to all engineering and engineering technology students. FRENCH CLUB

The purpose of the French Club is to promote the study of the French language and culture through a variety of programs and activities. Students are encouraged to participate in study abroad programs and travel through club sponsored activities. Interaction with people from French speaking countries is encouraged by working with foreign exchange students, and visits with speakers from French businesses and cultural organizations. The Club helps students to make links with French speakers from various parts of the world through video exchanges, e-mail exchanges, and videoconferencing. Field trips to museums, exhibits, and restaurants may also be scheduled.

HUMAN SERVICES ORGANIZATION

The Human Services Club provides students and faculty the opportunity to broaden their understanding of the field of human services. Club meetings are held bi-monthly from September to May. Focusing on the interests of its members, these meetings generally consist of topic speakers, films, visitations, and group discussions. Participation in the annual New England Conference, as well as local conferences, is available to club members. The policies of the Human Services Club are in unison with the policies of the New England Organization of Human Services Education, which serves as a medium of communication among New England Human Service faculty, practitioners and students. Membership to this club and participation in its diversity of the human service field acquire the knowledge and skill competencies for fostering the development of better professionals for tomorrow's world.

INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF ADMINISTRATIVE PROFESSIONALS (IAAP)

The purpose of International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP) is to enhance an image of administrative support positions in office environments by promoting the professional development of students preparing for careers in the administrative support positions. IAAP offers its members opportunities and responsibilities to aid them in achieving success as individuals and as future administrative support persons. Since the administrative support profession is a distinguished one requiring intelligence, ability, initiative, culture, and refinement; the activities of IAAP are designed to promote these traits. One such activity is the raising of funds by various means to support scholarships to CCRI. Topics of interest to their chosen profession are presented by means of out-of-class resources such as speakers, workshops, field trips, etc.

JAZZ ENSEMBLE

The CCRI Jazz Ensemble is an active, performing musical organization. It is offered as a one-credit course through the CCRI Music Department. The group meets and rehearses on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Rehearsal times are published each semester in the course schedule bulletin. The group gives several performances each semester, both on and off campus. In the past, the CCRI Jazz Ensemble has performed at the Williams College Jazz Festival, MIT's New England Collegiate Jazz Festival, the U-Mass Dartmouth Jazz Festival, and the URI Jazz and World Music Festival. The Ensemble has recorded several cassettes, and has sponsored field trips to jazz performances in Boston and New York City. The CCRI Jazz Ensemble welcomes students who are interested in performing Jazz, and who are willing to make a strong commitment to a hard-working and rewarding musical organization. Membership is open to any CCRI student. Auditions are held during the first two scheduled classes.

ONE STEP BEYOND

One Step Beyond is a club that has two primary goals. One goal is to expose the individual to an extensive range of unique activities. Activities one might not do on his/her own are canoeing/kayaking, mountain climbing, repelling, cross-country/down hill skiing, scuba diving, white water rafting, water skiing, fishing, etc. Second goal also provides a network for those who have had previous experience in these activities but were held back because they could not find anyone who shared the same interest. Membership is composed of CCRI students full or part-time with good academic standing.

PHI THETA KAPPA (HONOR SOCIETY)

Phi Theta Kappa is an international honor society organization for community and junior colleges throughout the United States and abroad. Its intent is to recognize the most successful students academically. To be eligible for entrance at the Community College of Rhode Island, students must have a 3.75 GPA or above, with a minimum of 24 and no more than 48 earned credits, be a matriculating, degree-seeking student and be of good character. PLAYERS (Theater)

The CCRI Players produce and present three or four major productions each academic year. Plays are chosen to expose students to a variety of dramatic styles and periods. Fully mounted productions, open to the public, are staged at both the Knight and Flanagan Campuses. Students have the opportunity to gain practical experience in all areas of theater production, under the supervision of the theater faculty and staff. All students, full or part time are eligible to participate in CCRI Players' productions, regardless of their course of study.

PSI BETA (Psychology Honor Society)

Psi Beta is the national honor society in psychology for community and junior college students. Its purpose is to promote and recognize general scholarship and interest in psychology, at two-year colleges in the United States. At CCRI, a student must have completed two courses in psychology, including General, with a "B" average, have a 3.0 cumulative index with 12 or more earned credits, and be of good character. The Chapter has regular meetings in conjunction with the Psychology Club to learn more about the field. Also, several students attend the New England Psychology Association Conference in the fall, and when possible, the Eastern Psychology Association Conference in the spring. The Chapter has at least one or two service learning projects, including activities with a local Head Start Program. Qualified candidates at any CCRI campus are encouraged to apply.

PSYCHOLOGY CLUB

The Psychology Club was organized in 1981 to promote interest in careers in psychology and to provide students with opportunities to hear speakers, take field trips, attend conferences, perform community service, and participate in informal social activities. The club meets Bi-weekly throughout the year with some trips planned for Saturday or Sundays. Over the years, membership has been quite stable, usually 15 - 20 students. Student Government and various fundraising events provide funding for activities. Any student interested in the broad field of psychology and/or related careers in the helping professions are invited to join. Many speakers that the club brings in appeal to the general student population; these activities are advertised throughout the campus. For example, recent topics include hypnosis, dream interpretation, sexuality, and psychology of humor, ESP, cults, art therapy, behavior modification, and crisis intervention. Each year the club attends the New England Psychology Association, EPA, and APA conference and takes trips to museums in Boston, the URI Psychology Labs, etc.

RADIOGRAPHY CLUB

The purpose of the Radiography Club is to promote public awareness of radiography and radiation and to provide activities for both freshmen and senior students enrolled in the Radiography Program. Fundraisers are planned annually for the Radiography scholarship as well as affiliations with local charitable organizations. RIDING CLUB

The CCRI Riding Club exists to broaden the knowledge and experience of its members in a safe and logical manner by teaching skills in the various disciplines of horseback riding through lessons, clinics, demonstrations, and participation in intercollegiate horse shows. An emphasis on the teaching of the physiology and psychology of the horse as well as care and grooming will be stressed. The Riding Club sponsors educational and special activities such as a breakfast ride and award ceremonies.

ROLE PLAYERS’ GUILD

The Role Players’ Guild of CCRI is an organization that promotes teamwork, creativity, strategic planning, diversity, higher order thinking and cooperation and fair play. These goals are accomplished through activities such as community service, fundraising, role playing. The club sponsors and participates in competitive events and tournaments, guest speakers and field trips. Some of the strategic game play includes but is not limited to Dungeons and Dragons, White Wolf, Palladium, Mage Knight, Warhammer, GURPS, etc. Also, the club is involved in many community service activities and fundraising for charitable organizations. SHARE OUR STRENGTH CULINARY CLUB

Share Our Strength is one of the nation’s leading anti-hunger/poverty organizations. The members of the CCRI Culinary Arts Assistant Program will be recruited for leadership roles in identifying community needs in the area of healthy cooking and nutrition; organizing/participating in special events that provide meals, promote healthy eating habits; and offer general educational activities associated with good eating. Members will also recruit other college students for inclusion in club activities. By linking with the RI Community Food Bank, the local affiliate of SOS, students will help to educate the college community on issues concerning hunger in Rhode Island.

SINGLE PARENTS IDENTIFYING RESOURCES INDEPENDENCE AND TOTALITY (SPIRIT)

This group provides a means of expression and peer support on issues relevant to the multiple roles each individual assumes as a single parent and student. Skills USA is a co-curricular organization that has two chapters operating out of the Knight and Flanagan campuses. Skills USA members are students enrolled in trade, career, industrial, technical, and health occupational programs. Skills sponsor many programs that will help their members develop a professional attitude toward their trade. Skills USA has a competitive events program that allows students to compete for awards in their chosen career field. State winners compete on a national level at the National Skills USA Championships. These competitions are designed and judged by experts from business and industry. Students are awarded gold, silver, and bronze medals in an Olympic type ceremony. Chapter activity focuses on combining educational and social skills into a dynamic club for career-minded students.
