Welcome back to the start of the Spring 2010 semester
A message from President Di Pasquale, Jan. 12, 2010
CCRI’s spring semester begins on Jan. 25, and I hope all students, faculty and staff have enjoyed the holidays and our brief, but restful, break as we return for the start of the spring semester. After spending time with family and friends during the holidays, I have begun the new year with renewed enthusiasm for my role as president of this great college and in my new role as acting commissioner of the Rhode Island Board of Governors for Higher Education. I will report back to you about my progress as commissioner in the coming weeks as I get settled in the position.
At CCRI, we have much to look forward in the year ahead. For all of us, All College Week will be a celebration of our good work at our campuses and in the community during the week of April 12. The event’s steering committee is planning now for Community Service Day, a celebration of the arts and Professional Development Day. Our annual Wellness Fair also will be a part of this year’s celebration. To conclude the week, we will honor special individuals for their contributions to the college by inducting them into our Hall of Fame.
The Foundations of Excellence initiative is making great strides with a dedicated effort by the steering committee and the responses of hundreds of students who participated in a fact-finding survey. A preliminary review of the results is overwhelmingly positive and I hope by the end of our review and analysis we will emerge with a new vision for enhanced learning and retention for first-year students.
This semester also will see many of our students engaged in the final leg of their CCRI academic journey as they work toward successfully completing their requirements for graduation on May 21. Despite the trying economy, I am proud of all of you for your continued commitment to changing lives and achieving dreams as we prepare for our 45th commencement.
Welcome back to a new year and a new semester! I look forward to continuing our work together in 2010.
