CCRI receives 'vision award'
A message from President Di Pasquale, June 15, 2010
I am very proud to announce that the Community College of Rhode Island is the recipient of the 2010 East Bay Community Action Program (EBCAP) Vision Award. This prestigious honor recognizes our college for its commitment to providing enriching opportunities for the community and for our long-standing partnership with EBCAP, which provides comprehensive health and human services to assist people in achieving their fullest potential.
I had the honor of accepting this award on behalf of the college at EBCAP's seventh annual Seaside Gala held at Castle Hill Inn and Resort in Newport on June 10. Dennis Roy, EBCAP's chief executive officer, praised the college's students, faculty and staff for their many contributions to its Head Start and Newport Skills Alliance programs.
CCRI has enjoyed a long-standing partnership with Head Start, which provides child development services to children under age 5. The college assists Head Start teaching staff who are working toward an associate degree in Early Childhood Education. Dennis said that CCRI instructors go out of their way to insure that their educational experience is a positive one and that they are successful in their course work. He was equally complimentary of student AmeriCorps volunteers who contributed their time to the program's community garden and Picturing America Project.
CCRI also is an integral partner with Newport Skills Alliance, a new employment and training program. Dennis applauded the expertise of our faculty and staff who create a welcoming learning environment, provide training curriculum and instruction and a thorough understanding of students' needs.
To CCRI's hardworking and dedicated students, faculty and staff, thank you for your efforts in the community that EBCAP so graciously recognized. I am proud, as always, of your tremendous service.
