Spring Semester Welcome to Students
On behalf of the faculty and staff at the Community College of Rhode Island, welcome to the spring semester! One of the most rewarding aspects of being a college president is welcoming hundreds of new and returning students to our various campuses. It’s invigorating to see our campuses full of students who are continuing what I hope is a lifetime of learning. We are fortunate to have hundreds of faculty members who are committed to helping students achieve their goals. Don’t hesitate to seek their help if you run into difficulty. This is going to be an exciting semester for the college, and I urge you to take advantage of the many special events taking place throughout the rest of the academic year.
January 20 - Homecoming Saturday
On Saturday, January 20, the Alumni Association and the Department of Athletics are combining forces to promote Homecoming at the Warwick Campus. Take this opportunity to see our exciting student athletes in action as the Lady Knights play Genesee at 5 p.m. and the Knights play Monroe Community College starting at 7 p.m. Dozens of prizes will be awarded including bookstore gift cards, movie and restaurant gift certificates, CCRI t-shirts, and much more. The program will also feature a special tribute to Bob Carosi, SkillsUSA director, who passed away in November.
March 19 – 23 - Inauguration Celebration
The inauguration of a new college president is an opportunity to celebrate the history, people and programs of an institution. The Inauguration Steering Committee is planning a week-long celebration that will offer something for everyone. The schedule includes a celebration of the arts and culture, a day of community service, professional development, guest speakers, and concludes with a formal inauguration ceremony. Please mark the dates on your calendars. An Inauguration website will soon be available for viewing.
April 4 – 2nd Annual Wellness Fair
The second annual Wellness Fair will be held in the rear of the cafeteria at the Lincoln Campus on April 4 from 9:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. The college’s Wellness Committee is hard at work planning the event which is expected to attract hundreds of students, faculty and staff.
May 18 - Commencement
The 42nd Commencement of CCRI will be held on Friday, May 18, at 5 p.m. at the Flanagan Campus. For those students who have worked so hard to earn their degrees and certificates, this is a special day indeed. I invite everyone to join together to celebrate our students' achievements and bright futures.
CCRI athletics is enjoying another banner year, and your attendance at athletic events is highly encouraged. Weekly schedules are posted on Pipeline. There is much going on at your community college, and it is important that you help tell our story of success to others. Together, we are creating a rewarding future for you as well as for CCRI. Good luck in the weeks ahead!
