POLICY TITLE: CWCE Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Program Enrollment Eligibility

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program consists of 120 hours of training - 88 hours of classroom and laboratory and 32 hours of clinical training in a nursing facility. Topics covered include basic nursing skills, resident’s rights, mental health and social services, basic rehabilitative services, personal care skills, and safety and emergency procedures.
Students must successfully complete a reading comprehension pre-test prior to applying to the CNA program. Students applying to the CNA program must submit a BCI from the State of Rhode Island, a completed CNA Application Form, a completed physical examination and a completed Immunization Form for CNA Students. CPR certification must be attained prior to the clinical portion of the program, which takes place during the last two weeks of training. Certification must be Healthcare Provider level by American Heart Association.

The Center for Workforce and Community Education at the Community College of Rhode Island is the institution’s office responsible for coordinating the CNA Program.
