Success Centers Peer Tutor Program

Policy and Procedures

Peer Tutors:

  1. All tutors must complete the Prospective Tutor Form which can be found online or within the Success Centers. Also, the Faculty Recommendation Form, which can be found online or within the Success Centers, needs to be signed by the Instructor of the class you wish to tutor or department chair. (If a tutor is tutoring in more than one subject area, this form should be duplicated and signed by the appropriate instructor or department chair.)
  2. Tutors will go through an interview with the Success Center Coordinator and if hired will fill out appropriate Payroll forms for new tutors.
  3. All peer tutors must attend training workshops and staff meetings in order to maintain and increase tutoring effectiveness and proficiency.
  4. Tutor training arrangements may be made on an individual basis for students who are unable to attend the group training due to extreme circumstances.
  5. Tutors are responsible for providing academic support only to those students who have completed the Peer Tutor Request Form, which can be found online or within the Success Centers. All tutoring must be done in the Success Center during the Centers' hours of operation.
  6. Tutoring will not be permitted during College breaks without prior approval of the Campus Coordinator.
  7. You will provide no more than three hours a week per subject of tutoring per student. Exceptions will be made on an individual basis with prior approval of the Campus Coordinator.
  8. Tutor Trac will be used to document ALL tutoring sessions. This is used as a tracking system for payment.
  9. You are responsible to ask the students to sign in on Tutor Trac.
  10. Tutoring sessions should be scheduled at a time which is mutually agreed upon by both you and your student.
  11. If you are unable to keep a scheduled appointment, you must make every attempt to contact your student before the scheduled appointment. A phone is available with permission in the Success Center for this purpose. Excessive absenteeism will result in dismissal. Phone numbers: Lincoln 333-7440, Providence 455-6116, Warwick 825-1170.
  12. In the event that your student cannot be reached at home, you are expected to leave a message at the Peer Tutor Program Office. Telephone messages will not be accepted.
  13. Do not comment on Instructors' methods of teaching.
  14. When not tutoring it is your responsibility to answer the phone if no one else can answer it.
  15. If idle, no shows etc...ask Campus Coordinator for activities to complete.
  16. Drop in Tutors - when you come on duty make sure someone at the desk and/or Campus Coordinator knows you are here.
  17. You are required to meet with the Campus Coordinator regularly.
  18. You are required to attend monthly Peer Tutor meetings on Friday.
  19. If your student misses two or more scheduled meetings without notifying the Campus Coordinator or you, he/she can be suspended from the program. You should report all missed appointments to the Campus Coordinator.
  20. If a student is excessively canceling meetings, the Campus Coordinator should be notified.
  21. Any conflicts between you and your student should be brought immediately to the attention of the Campus Coordinator. This includes scheduling conflicts as well as personal or professional concerns.
