Opening Day Public Forum

On Thursday, September 1, 2005, approximately 450 members of the college community participated in an evaluation of the most recent draft statements generated by the Mission Initiative Committee. The draft statements presented evolved over a number of months with the college community’s input.

The Process:

Draft Statements and the criteria to evaluate them were provided to each individual attending the forum.

The history of CCRI and the community college movement was presented in a video produced by in-house staff.  A power point presentation was used to guide the process.

Individuals seated at tables of 10 were asked to review the statements, discuss them and provide ratings and comments producing one collective response.

The Results:

The general consensus supported the core values identified by the committee.  The statements however were deemed too long and will be revised.  See Comments.

Mission Statement

Two mission statements were presented and participants were asked to rank and edit their most preferred statement.  There was an equal amount of support for each statement.  However, a blending of the two statements was recommended.  See Comments.

Next Steps:

The Mission Initiative Committee is currently reviewing comments received and is re-drafting statements.  Revised statements will be published on this site prior to submitting a final recommendation to the President's Council in the few weeks..
