June 6, 2005 - Notes
Members in attendance: Ruth Barrington, Lee Chartier, Robert Melucci, Dennis Moore, Michelle O'Brien, Carol Panaccione, Lou Pullano and JoAnn Warren
The focus of the meeting was on disseminating draft statements to the college community for its input and modifications, as well as planning Opening Day activities.
JoAnn, Dennis and Ruth reported that the presentation to Department Chairs (5/17) had gone well. Specific recommendations for the statements were discussed and modifications to the statements were made.
Statements:
Nine mission statements and six vision statements were reviewed. The committee felt that there were too many statements to put forth.
Core values were discussed at length and it was a unanimous decision to present the core values in a scheme based on the acronym CCRI.
Lee Chartier volunteered to revise modify and otherwise put statements together in "one voice". These revisions will be forwarded to the committee and upon review by the committee, the statements will be disseminated (via pipeline, interoffice mail for staff and administration and at home for faculty) by 6/16/05.
Opening Day:
JoAnn reported that the committee could have as much time as it needed on Opening Day to generate a discussion and ideally a consensus on statements. However, a plan must be submitted to VP Sherman by July 1.
A discussion about the format, activities and what will be presented that day resulted in many ideas. A subcommittee will be established to develop a plan. Lee Chartier reported that the video (approximately 8 minutes) may be used as an opener. It was suggested that the committee present "final drafts" at Opening Day, building on the input received over the summer. Break out sessions would facilitate further discussion and dialog. Facilitating the break out sessions were discussed at length. Alternative sites and activities will be recommended along with the plan.
Next Meeting:
The committee will meet again on Monday 6/20 at 9:00 am at the Warwick Campus in Room 2240.
